General Motors has confirmed the 2010 Hummer H4. It will share its under body with another upcoming compact architecture but, the fun doesn?t stop there as the H3 sees the addition of a diesel model down under and the addition of a new H3 SUT model in 2008.

Martin Walsh mentioned the addition of a smaller Hummer that will sit below the current H3. "It will be another GM platform that will allow us to build a smaller vehicle," he says.

A Hummer insider admitted to fearing that its hard-won hardcore off-road image may be irreparably harmed if GM decides to go "soft" with the H4.
Hummer needs to maintain its 4WD reputation by ensuring that all its vehicles have a separate chassis, short overhangs, class-leading approach, breakover and departure angles, ample ground clearance and signature Hummer styling cues.

gm/hummer already went soft with the h2

who here knows someone who uses the h2 for offroading or heavy duty stuff?

a few months ago one of my friends had an accident and was stuck on a guardrail. it was a high traffic area (onramp) but we were able to divert traffic, all we needed was someone to pull her out, it wouldnt have been hard at all since it was a volkswagen cabrio.

we were getting frustrated cause all that was passing by wee cars, i had my deville but didnt wanna use that to tow or pull. anyways, a hummer passed by with rims and tvs and a chromed out trailer hitch, we asked him as politely as possible to pull us her out and he just had this ****ing look on his face like,"my hummer is too good to be pulling shit out"

an old dodge ended up pulling us out in idle

**** hummers (except for h1)

With a properly sized bed it could be very useful.

Hummer is never going to go the route of those like Jeep and start making poorly performing crossovers and such. GM knows what the Hummer name means and what the capabilities must be, they're just trying to expand that notoriety so more people can have access with a range of vehicles to fit different needs.

Just as Mark LaNeve of GM recently said, they know not every Hummer they sell has to be able to climb a vertical wall and the like, but Hummer has always meant a certain capability beyond the typical, and that will stay. You just can't build everything suited for army use, because then you'll never have a sellable product except for a few high income car players, and will really be limited.

I know a few don't seem to get that idea, and think anything below the original H1 is a disgrace, but a company needs to sell products to stay alive, and they've never done better than recently--and with more smaller products, such as something along the lines of a Jeep Wrangler but clearly burlier, that will continue to improve. Just no more military grade H1's that can do amazing things, but are as impractical as it gets and awful to drive. Kind of like if Cadillac had only continued to make one or two sole big, heavy, floaty titanics of cars that looked bold and got 2 mpg, just "because" that's a big part of their heritage. Times change and especially so does the market.

Where does one go for these 2,010 hummers? Are they cheaper than the girls in Carson City?

Hummer is never going to go the route of those like Jeep and start making poorly performing crossovers and such. They started doing so once they brought out the H2. Any Hummer besides the H1 would never survive off roading

Great post...points.

An H1 isnt the only vehicle suitable to off roading. There are many other vehicles peopel do use and although they might not be as capable as a Hummer H1, is it still done.
