http://jalopnik.com/cars/assets/resources/2007/04/2008_ls3_03.jpgJust JALOPNICK.COM - - Because the new Corvette LS3's not expected to be unveiled until Saturday, doesn't mean you don't deserve to see it early. Luckily some shots have already snuck out of Bowling Green of what looks to be the new engine for the 2008 big bad-ass from the bargain brand at the General. A poster over at DigitalCorvettes did the dirty work to show us the rumored 430 hp engine that we've heard will be the new standard for the '08 Corvette. It's no "Corvette SS (http://jalopnik.com/cars/news/the-corvette-ss-production-mule-spy-photos-were-so-precise-even-germans-dig-them-245012.php)," but whatevs. Anyway, we'll just let you look at the new n' pretty five-spoke wheels and the big side-bolstered red leather seats, and we'll try to get you more as soon as we get it into our sweaty paws. ? Yep, some nice changes to keep it fresh, including on the interior which has needed it. By far, though, keeping the under hood up to date and power upgraded is most important, and that's done.

I love Corvette's red leather interiors!

Side note: This customer brought in a '88 Vette Coupe today and I was really taking a liking to it, no matter if it's cramped, old and a PITA to work on. I've never liked any Corvettes (with the exceptions of a few...ZR1 and C6 Z06) but for whatever reason, the C4's really grew on me over winter. It'd be a cool car to have, too bad it's so impractical in MN. Maybe I can get one later as a summer car..

The LS3 was slated for the vette on the program chart I saw....no surprise there, youll likely find it in a BUNCH of new GM vehicles (trucks/cars) to have economies of scale.

Sure hope you're right, it would be great to see a new RWD Impala next year with this engine.

With the new EPA testing GM can't meet the new regulations so they're going back to the drawing board trying to figure out how to meet the new regulations

I'm as disappointed as all, but only a little--when these cars do come out, it's better that they score well on ALL bases. Not just have great power, style, and general performance, but also that it's all done with the cars not being gas hogs. That's the only issue right now, and they'll do MUCH better in the long term if the issue is sorted, one way or another, so everyone can have the stylish RWD power they want but not be killed at the pumps.

So, it should be seen as more of a positive, even if a bit disheartening for the moment. I'd much rather have to wait a few years to get a car I enjoy AND that doesn't make me hate it at the pumps, than choose one or the other.

That's not to say they shouldn't already be "fine" as far as MPG, with 6-speeds, AFM, and the typical GM small block decent fuel sipping, they're just trying to really hit the new targets in this area.

Rest assured, the new V6, LS3 V8, etc. Impala and others are already very far along in their development, and this is just a bump in the road for now.
