Looking around there's several different versions of this car, not the least of which is a FWD and RWD versions; one using a different engine and a transaxle and one using a 307, THM200-4R or THM400 trans.
Are there different factory service manuals for each and if there are is their a way to tell?

There isn't different versions of the car. The FWD is a Fleetwood, the RWD is a Brougham. Get the manual for a Brougham. A manual for a Caprice will take care of just about everything, as well.

Geniune GM service manuals are the best.
Here is one for an '87 Brougham, should be very similar, if not identical, to the '88 version.
Fisher Body manuals are handy to have as well:

You just add your link, then type in what you want it to say. If you don't type, the text of the link is displayed.
