View Full Version : Out of all the cars you've owned, what's your favorite? I was just talking with my brother & he was giving me a hard time about how often I get a different vehicle & he asked me which one was my favorite out of all of them. I really had to think about it for a while! It's kind of a toss up between my 01 Camaro SS and my current vehicle, an 04 CTS.
The Camaro had Soooo much more power and sounded so good & I really miss having the 6 speed, but at the same time it sucked having to add a quart & a half of oil between oil changes because the factory rings were crap & I had to buy new rear tires at least once a year.
Well the CTS is a great car too. It handles great for a sedan & has decent power & I love the looks. But, it had a lot of issues when I first got it that I still have a bad taste in my mouth about. I really can't decide which would be my favorite! I wish I could have held out & bought a CTS-V!!! Then I could have had the best of both worlds!
Runner ups would be my 71 RS Camaro & my 73 4x4 C-10 stepside. The older stuff sure was easier to work on!
What about ya'll? What's the favorite vehicle you've had? Hmm, thats a tough one. I would have to say my 95 SLS. My old Silverado was cool, mainly because it was so tough, but I still have to say the caddy. Dadillac 04-23-07, 02:51 PM Hard to say which one was my favorite. But if I could have one back, it would be the '67 Cougar. I often think of that car and kick myself for selling it. :(
Don EcSTSatic 04-23-07, 02:54 PM For sheer head-turning ability, my '65 GTO convertable. If it was more reliable and maintainable, I'd have to say my '88 Thunderbird TurboCoupe. Destroyer 04-23-07, 02:55 PM Now thats a tough one as I've had about 150 cars. Had cars ranging from Vettes, Porsches, Mercedes, Cadillacs, several diffent model musclecars, etc. If I had to pick my favorite sedan it would be the '98 Mercedes W140 followed by my current '91 Fleetwood Brougham but for totally different reasons. The Mercedes, rode better, drove better, had that great German luxury car feel but its an overly complicated car and costs a fortune to fix. The 'ole Fleetwood on the other hand is a simple, reliable car that doesn't ask for much, is highly modifiable, comfortable in an old school way and just feels rugged rather than delicate.
Sports cars: My '85 Porsche 928 from a drivers point of view and I have a hard time picking which one of the American sports/muscle cars I liked best cause I enjoyed them all. It would be a toss-up between my 67 468 Olds BB 442, 12 second '87 Mustang GT vert or my '95 Z28 vert. Jonas McFeely 04-23-07, 03:01 PM Hands down my '85 Brougham. But as far a s cars i wish i would have held on to:
My '85 Seville. I dont even want to talk about it
My '86 CRX SI. No front fenders,a hole where the sun roof used to be,and more rust than youd wish upon your worst enemys car.But dammit that car was fun.
My '85 300 ZX. It was a non-turbo,but it was still a blast. It started to over heat and she needed a new radiator,at a cost of $650.I paid $651 for the car with TTT.She found a good home,i still her sometimes around where i live...
Im about to invest $500 in a '78 Buick Century Limited. It has the 5.0 V8,which was rare for that year. It has a brand new R134 AC system, totally overhauled.Just had a rebuilt tranny put in.Has 109k on it. Its baby blue with a white top and baby blue interior. Its a bit rusty and very dirty, but drives very well. Its by buddys car,and he knows i will give it a good home.Well at least for a couple months. I'll post some pics when i get it. Crap...impossible. The Challenger is my favorite, but since I can't drive it yet, I'd say I had the most fun in the '68 Plymouth Sport Fury. The Porsche was GREAT, but way too short lived to have had any real good memories. The '60 Dodge D-100 cause I built it fairly well. Wish I woulda kept it. The '63 Thunderbird cause I LOVE that body style, it was my first car, it was my first big block (401) and it was just plain bad ass. It got sold before I turned 16. The 'yota 4Runner I'm planning on having a helluva lot of fun with this summer. It LOVES mud. The '84 GMC 3/4 ton gave me a full year of total reliability, fun and a full size heavy duty pickup truck before going totally all to hell. The '63 Mercury Monterey was FUN with that 406 and the rear Breezeway window. The '59 Lincoln was a Helluva head turner. The '66 Continental was full of memories and good times and an empty fuel tank that cost me 42 bucks to fill up back when fuel was a buck a gallon. My '94 STS was a GREAT thing until the bearings spun. Then I gave up on her and lost interest quickly. I'm thinking about another, newer one. The '91 F-150 was hella fun and was my home for about 4 months one summer, when I had a sleeping bag, a pillow, three sets of clothes and a job. That was fun. Wouldn't do it again, but I enjoyed it.
Crap...so many more...those are the ones that pop up right away on the list of great memories for me though... Wiseguy2 04-23-07, 04:59 PM My '88 M5, hands-down. Well, an 88 M5 that was Turbocharged that I used to own... but overall, the 88 BMW M5.
I do like my STS an awful lot tho. 1988 Mazda 929 - It was quirky, obscure, and amusing. I wouldn't call it the best by a long shot, but I had a good time. I owned two, actually.
Second would be the 1990 BMW 525i 5-speed that I owned for three weeks. Destroyer 04-23-07, 06:16 PM Crap...impossible. All this Mopar talk reminded me of one of my favorite cars I had, a '66 Newport convertible. Had a 383, not too shabby and a great cruiser. If it werent for the dash constantly wanting to start on fire (not kidding), the uninspired (for lack of better word) braking, it could have been in the top 5 favorite cars I owned. BTW: Also had a '63 Polara, '73 Challenger 340, '68 t bird w/429 and suicide doors..........damn I need to start buying more old cars. creeker 04-23-07, 06:33 PM 64 Chev. impala s.s., great car plus lots of good times. I~LUV~Caddys8792 04-23-07, 06:42 PM Now thats a tough one as I've had about 150 cars.
You are my hero! I've always wanted to own hundreds of different cars in my lifetime.
Anyways, I've only owned two cars, the '92 deVille and the '95 Roadmaster Limited. I'd have to say the deVille is the car I liked more, but the Roadmaster certainly had some major advantages over the deVille, such as: LT1 350 V8, RWD, better high end power, faster overall, respected among the majority of the auto enthusiasts I knew (mainly because of the LT1). Overall I like the Caddy more because that's what I wanted when I had the Buick, the fact it's a Cadillac, superior build quality, more comfortable, better overall design. I have no favorite. If It was mine, I loved it. Simply cannot pick out one and hold it above the others. If forced to, I'd say the new car my Dad bought me for graduation from High School, as a gift. Simply because Mom & Dad bought it for me ! (This was 43 years ago, guys!) :) AlBundy 04-23-07, 07:02 PM My 83 Delta 88 Royal. It was blue. I miss it.

Was that the '67 Imperial you had? 83 Delta 88?! HA! I had an 84 with the diesel! Awesome car, actually. Wish the tranny hadn't blown up on me, I'da driven it forever! No, the Imperial Crown Convert was a 1968. I bought that upon graduation from Temple University, in Phila., Pa. Dad co-signed and Sandy paid installment loan for 4 years, from earning working at Seats, assembling bikes in the bike dept. 4 year prior Mom &Dad bought me a car from Graduation from High School. I took that car away to college. It was a Sport Fury Convertible, white with white top & red vinyl bucket seats. 318 V8. Nice Car.
http://files.conceptcarz.com/img/Plymouth/64_Plymouth_Sport_Fury_DV_05_HH-06.jpg The '66 Mustang coupe I had for 4 years....until I sold it like a jack ass. I regret selling every day...especially on day's like today....Sunny...mid 80's....perfect weather for a cruise. These days...if I'm in the mood, I'll grab one of my parent's cars....either the '63 Mercury, or the '66 Triumph and take it out for a spin. The usual excuse is something along the lines of, " Well, it didn't seem like it was charging properly last time I drove it", or "I've gotta re-sync the carbs, wasn't idling right before..gotta put some miles on it.."
Works everytime.
On a side note...the '66 Mustang might be replaced this summer if I can finally get my hands on this '71 Le Mans 350 Sport Convertible My step-dad and I have been looking at. I~LUV~Caddys8792 04-23-07, 07:54 PM The '59 Lincoln was a Helluva head turner.
Wow. One of my favorite '50s cars! (1st being the '58 Mark III) Tell me about it, I'm all ears. I wanna hear everything. Of the 22 cars I've had, I'd have to say that the 02 vette was my favorite. I regret selling it. Benzilla 04-23-07, 09:17 PM Big surprise, but my '79 Coupe DeVille Phaeton is my favorite. I fell in love with it's looks, but we've bonded a lot since then too. Before I finally got the carburetor working right, I learned how "get along" with the car; Knowing just the right gas/brake combo to get away from a light without stalling (I don't miss that) the power seat not working after exactly 9:00 AM, how it has just a stub of an antenna, yet still found a way to pick up my favorite radio station and nothing else (that's a weird one). We understand each other, when it isn't running right, I don't feel well. When I feel great, it runs without a hitch. I'm keeping this car until one of us dies. 96Fleetwood 04-23-07, 10:04 PM 1989 Porsche 944 S-2... it was a love/hate relationship but also the most fun I have ever had with a vehicle.

But I was too young to fully understand the responsiblity that came with that kind of car.... Night Wolf 04-23-07, 10:17 PM No doubt... the Coupe....
then... I dunno, it would be hard to arrange the rest cause they are/were all awesome in their own way. Oddly enough I think my fondest memories of an auto are from my 1991 GMC Sonoma 4.3 I had in high school through most of college. I had lots of performance mods on that little truck.....it was fast for it's day. And I made a lot of nice memories in that truck. ;) I drove it for almost 9 years. Night Wolf 04-23-07, 11:07 PM Oddly enough I think my fondest memories of an auto are from my 1991 GMC Sonoma 4.3 I had in high school through most of college. Aimee and I shared our first kiss in the back of the Coupe..... I miss that car :( slk230mb 04-24-07, 12:11 AM It's a hard call for me. My first was a leased 2000 Deville that I had for 7 months. I've had the Escalade since May 2003. I guess I'd have to go with the Escalade. Some good memories with good friends in that car, and it's survived college pretty damn well. Jonas McFeely 04-24-07, 02:17 AM I was a local bar a couple months back, and i met a guy named Kevin. My boy Don P was trying score some trees and he told us to follow him back to his house. We did, played pool, and ran out of beer. It was 3am,and they stop selling beer at 2am here. But i know a place by UCF that sells beer 24 hours to select, cool people.Me being cool,i can buy beer there. So he hands me the keys to his 2005 White Escalade EXT on 22's with a bangin system and gives me money.Says to get hime 2 12 packs of busch light.
I drove that damn truck for an hour and a half, just joy riding and bumpin the system, went and picked up my room mate and called mad people in my phone saying some guy i barely know gave me the keys to his Escalade truck. It was a great night...
He sold the Escalade and bought a '98 Cobra with a super charger and a boat load of other mods, claimed it had 450 rwhl horsepower. He wrecked itg a couple weeks ago,hit a wall racing some guy.
Ive been drinking Cuervo Gold, excuse the drunk rambling post. hardrockcamaro@mac.c 04-24-07, 05:05 AM My 1988 IROC Camaro.
I love that car and will not part with it if I can possibly help it.
I've not owned many cars though, but of what I've owned, that's by far my favourite even though my STS is the finest car I've ever owned.
------- Started off brand new -------------------
1993 Ford Mondeo (European Contour) 2.5L V6 <- Better car than the BMW that followed a couple of years later...
1996 VW Golf 1.6L <- COMPANY CAR - Not nice in any way but reliable cos I beat on it daily
1997 BMW 323i Coupe <- COMPANY CAR - Not nice in any way and the most unreliable car on my list (or possibly the known universe?).
1997 Ford Puma 1.7L <- Awesome car, handles like a go cart and has an engine that loves to rev
1998 Ford Focus ZX5 1.8L <- Spent thousands ricing this one up, 100,000 trouble free miles
----------- I then switched to used cars for better value for money ----------
1990 Ford Orion 1.6L <- $500 Beater car so I could also buy the maro
1988 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z
2000 Cadillac STS
I still own the last 2! JimHare 04-24-07, 03:28 PM If forced to, I'd say the new car my Dad bought me for graduation from High School, as a gift. Simply because Mom & Dad bought it for me ! (This was 43 years ago, guys!) :)
...and you could have any color you wanted, as long as it was black, right Sandy?...
Or was that the one with the big wooden wheels and the canvas top?..with a "four-horsepower" engine up front?...

Yes,i too <3 the MX6 gdwriter 05-01-07, 04:36 PM First place is easy: Betty, my '64 Impala four-door hardtop. As many of you know, I grew up with an learned to drive in a '64 Impala that was also meadow green. That was what sparked my love for cars, and when I bought Betty, I felt like I got a piece of my life back that was lost. I love everything about Betty—the way she looks and the way she drives (http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/1067073-post6.html).

I'm not a materialistic person, but Betty is my most prized possession. I would give up just about anything else I own (Hoover and Pepper don't count) before I would give up Betty. Thank God (and my lawyer) I did not lose her in the divorce.
I did however, lost my second place car in the divorce. I had to sell Pugsley, my '99 Honda Accord EX coupe to my sister, and it's now my 17-year-old niece's first car. I drove it for 6 1/2 years and 75,000 miles and had not a single problem with it. Were it not for the divorce, I would still be driving it; I had planned to keep the car indefinitely.
Pugsley was good looking, fast, comfortable, economical and reliable. Perfect balance of ride and handling. It was everything I ever wanted in a car except for paint that would scratch if you gave it a dirty look.
http://www.gdwriter.com/graphics/pugsley.jpg
I know there are members here who hate Hondas and Toyotas, but I have no complaints about my Accord. Many people who consider a car an appliance buy the Accord because it's reliable and has great resale value, the same reason they buy Camrys. But unlike the Camry, the Accord will reward an enthusiastic driver with precise steering, strong brakes and an engine that's eager to rev. It's no BMW, but it's not expensive to buy and maintain, either.
Coming in at a very close third is Cruella, my '91 Sedan de Ville. She's not the kind of car I would have considered a few years ago; I've always liked Cadillacs (well, maybe not in the 80s when they mostly built ugly crap), but I never thought about owning one. I simply needed a cheap set of wheels and got lucky when I found her for $999 on AutoTrader.com two summers ago.
And I've truly come to love this car. She's older and has a ton of miles on her, and as a result, I've done a good share of repairs, but she runs beautifully and is a real pleasure to drive. She also handles (http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/1065873-post1.html) suprisingly well for a big, American-style luxury sedan.
http://www.gdwriter.q45.org/P5290003.jpg
Cosmetically, she was in decent shape, and I've gradually fixed her up there as well. I actually like all the chrome trim and the whitewalls—she stands out compared to most contemporary cars. The old girl definitely has character. Plus, she's paid for. After making payments on four different cars since 1989 and never paying off any of them, it's nice to get off that treadmill.
My goal is to make Cruella last for 300,000 miles. I'm at 227,000 now, 27,000 of which are mine. Jonas McFeely 05-01-07, 04:46 PM That Deville looks stunning for having 227k!
Oh,and i personally think 1980's Cadillacs (except for the Eldorado) are some of the sexiest cars on the road. Especially the '80-'85 Seville and '80-'85 Brougham Coupes. I agree 100% on the Brougham Coupes ! LOVE THEM !:yup:
Also love the Fleetwood Coupes (1985-1992) !! gdwriter 05-01-07, 06:14 PM That Deville looks stunning for having 227k!

Cruella cleans up very nicely. Paint isn't perfect; there are lots of rock chips on the hood and there are a couple of areas that are faded, but overall, she looks good.
I was mostly talking about the too-far downsized 85-86 DeVille and 86 Eldorado/Seville. I like the 80-85 models, but most of them have the HT4100, which just isn't enough engine for a car that size. I love the 77-79 DeVille and Fleetwood, though. Good looking and still have a big-block Caddy engine. Jonas McFeely 05-01-07, 07:24 PM Yeah, most of the later 80's FWD Cadillacs are pretty ugly. With the right color and wheels they can look good. I liked Night Wolfs CDV with the Seville rims, that car looked sharp. I~LUV~Caddys8792 05-01-07, 11:31 PM Now that we're on the topic of early '80s Cadillacs, I got the 1981 Cadillac full line brochure in the mail yesterday, and I was looking at the Brougham Coupe D'elegance and Eldorado Biarritz, trying to figure out which I would rather have (and it was a tough decesion, both are in my top 5 lists of best looking Cadillacs of all time) but I decided I'd rather have the Brougham Coupe. It's bigger, arguably better looking, has the traditional Cadillac ride and feel. Plus it's RWD which makes it easier to modify if I wanted to go that route. From all that to a 8 year old Cadillac. OUCH!
I've owned around 100 cars.
My 1984 Maserati 4 Porte III Royale, (all 30 or so Royale's were built to order) SS 450hp motor, 5 spd, lowered, headers, 4 duces... Or the Motorsport 645csi Alpina with the Turbo charged M1 motor, but that was a company car so it was only mine to drive so maybe it doesn't count.
But then again, there must be a reason I've owned so many 1977 - 1980 SDV's. But that could be because I'm a very sick man.
The only car that sticks in my garage is a 1969 Corvette that I'll have till I die or destroy it. My dad bought it new when I was about 6 years old. Wiseguy2 05-02-07, 03:30 AM Or the Motorsport 645csi Alpina with the Turbo charged M1 motor...
:D M1 Motor, eh? I'm kinda familiar with em... M88/1s
I still think I should ditch it and grab a Chevette tho. ewill3rd 05-02-07, 06:23 AM My '69 Camaro, even though it was seriously beat up, I really really loved that car.
At times I wish I had followed my dream of restoring it.
Alas, I was broke and lazy, not necessarily in that order ;) Pckstude 05-02-07, 06:56 AM I've lost count of the number of cars that have crossed my path in life. Not as many as some others, but I'ld about 36 or so cars, which is more than the average joe.
One of my favorites was a '76 Dodge dart sport. Had the twister/demon body style, not the family dart body style. Lots of good memories in that car, and probably the one I've owned the longest next to my '64 Studebaker which has an emotional attachment, and hope that I never have to sell it.
Next would be a '73 olds cutlass. That car ran sweet and smooth. I was a dumb a$$ for selling it. Another one would be a '90 Buick century bought off an old couple. It was perfect, and had low miles. Another one that I wish I could've hung onto.
The '85 El Camino was a sweet machine too, but no good in the winter.
I've owned a variety of all makes in trucks and cars, but these stick out in my memory in this early part of the a.m.
There will be more cars in the future as I have finally given up all hope of trying to cure myself of this car addiction.
My newest acquisition, and the reason I come to this forum, is my '84 hearse built off a deville. Drives smooth like a big luxury car, and i love it. Only problem is, I have to call the harbor master for a place to park this boat. lol | |
