Well, I took my new fleetwood to my cabin (about 200 miles each way) and it was a great experiance!

Had to show a hemi ram whos boss on the way home hahaha, silly hemi.

Only thing I found out that does not seem to work is the trunk popper in the glove box??? is there a fuse for this or is it a deeper problem?

Well, pics....not to shabby for 3650.00 I think.....

OH, and best part is, I got 22.3mpg up and 23.5 back!!!

Dumb question, but does anyone know the actual paint color that my car is, what cadillac calls it, also the interior...They always have weird names...not just "blue" lol

Nice car! I'd say you got quite a deal for $3650!

Let's see here, the offical color names look to be... Medium Adriatic Blue exterior (a Fleetwood exclusive!) with a Medium Blue leather interior. Ya got lucky, 1994 was the first year Cadillac put the color names in the showroom catalogs, before that, they were shown in seperate little books, and I have the '94 and '95 showroom brochures.

No, I'm sorry I don't know anything about that trunk popper. Whereabout in the Twin Cities are you located in? I'm in Eagan.

If you haven't heard about the big national meet that's happening in Iowa next month, you should join us!

Nice looking fleetwood, I really like that blue color.

For your trunk release button, try to push the button while the car is running or you have the key in the 'run' position. My caddys are that way, the button won't work unless there is power going to it.

Wow, looks mint--clearly has been a well kept car.

And those, although high, 2:56 rear gears are REALLY helping you with the gas mileage:thumbsup:

Too bad about the trunk popper, but that's a little bug, and hopefully someone will have a workable solution or idea before long.

Interesting how - even without the doggy on the license plate - the non-vinyl top version with that big rear window makes the Fleetwood look 4-lanes WIDE !

HAHA yeah, I love it. I like the look of the shortish back window and the rear carpeted deck, looks nice.

The lil doggy was scared he could barely stand there for the pic lol.

So what are the smoothest, quitest tires for the fleetwood? the continentials that are on the car seem good but when I have to get new ones, whats best for ride quality?

Been there done that! Got the 5.9L Ram from 0-60 and the Hemi didn't like me picking on his big brother so I spanked him from 40-100.... Ahh the fun.... 40-60 was the only place he matched my acceleration. 60+ I was pulling all the time.

So being the Hemi Ram isn't much different in weight that my Fleetwood and he has 3.91's vs my 3.42's, and I can out pull him, they aren't making 345 hp or I am just making more power than advertised.

I would like to see the LT1 tested identical to the new Hemi's and LS1's.

My friend has a 5.7 hemi ram.... those things have to push so much air it isnt really a fair fight, they also are 5000lb+ vehicles. Im a diehard GM guy but gotta point some things out!

N0DIH

Not 85 hp worth of air though....

I don't think they make the power they advertise or we make more power than we advertise.

I think the last part of the sentence above CALLED IT!
GM deliberately down-advertised the HP rating of the LT1 for various reasons, partly - I believe - to keep the Ralph Nader types off their corporate butts.

How much power is typically lost on a chassis dyno vs an engine?

So the LT1 in the tanks was 260hp, most see 210-230 at the rear wheels (yes a big variation, I think production tolerances were quite sloppy). So, what does a similar hp LR7 (4.8L) LS1 style V8 put to the rear wheels? It has more hp advertised than the LT1, but is is more powerful?

If you're referring to the 4.8L V8 used in the full size trucks and SUV's (I think that's the only one) I don't think it's very quick. I've raced a few 4.8 & 5.3L Silverados and I can beat them by just a tad with my 200hp 4.9L. Surprising considering the 4.8L is rated at 285 hp & 295 lb/ft and the 5.3L is rated at like 295hp and 325lb/ft. Looking at just the ratings, those should destroy my lil' old 4.9L.

Another question, how does GM get so much power from that relatively small OHV V8? Dodge's 4.7 DOHC V8 makes 235hp in the Rams, and Ford's 4.6L SOHC V8 makes around 235hp in the F-150s. The OHC motors should make more power right?

cadydaddy
04-23-07, 01:12 PM
Most of the time you lose 15-20% due to drivetrain loss, more if a auto less if a manual.

The LS1 in the Fbodys put down around 300rwhp.

Yes but dont dyno results say otherwise? I think the air has alot to do with it, those trucks are shaped like stacked bricks and our cars, especially caprices, are shaped like bullets and are very dense.

I agree with you to a point but something just seems fishy... did you guys beat them off the line?

The 5.9L yes, smoked him, traction control fighting me and all, we were neck and neck 0-20, but after that no contest. The Hemi gave more of a fight, he came up when I was spanking the 5.9L Ram. We were already rolling 40 mph then.

Not sure if he had it in 4wd, probably not, but the DMax guys do race in 4WD, as they have to else no traction.... But from a 40 punch it the Hemi stayed along side for maybe till 60 then I started pulling and pulling up to 95-100 when we both backed off.

3.42's and the LT1 is a great combo.... And I was running factory tune still then, that was before I got into tuning.

If all goes well, BaDBodies in Chicago (BaDBodies.com) is having a track day at Byron on May 5, @ 10am, I am hoping to get to go and play some and see how it does on E85!

I think mine has the 2.56 gears, but it still seems to be very fast to me!

Can I get the gears off that list on the trunk lid?

N0DIH
04-24-07, 10:41 AM
Non Broughams has 2.56's std. R1P and Broughams got 2.93's and V4P Tow package got 3.42's.

RPO codes
GT5 Rear Axle Ratio 4.10
GT4 Rear Axle Ratio 3.73
GM8 Rear Axle Ratio 2.56
GU4 Rear Axle Ratio 3.08
GU6 Rear Axle Ratio 3.42
GW9 Rear Axle Ratio 2.93

Don't worry 4.10's weren't avail. 3.73's were in 1993 for the V4P package. Most people I have talked to with 3.73's wished they had 3.42's. Too high cruise rpms @ high speeds (2700 @ 85 mph in OD).

I had 3.42's paired with my 9C1, that was a nice combo. And those were the gears i squeezed 550 miles out of the tank. The pinion bearings bit the dust for some reason and I swapped axles with a junked 9C1 with 3.08's, even with MPG calculated and 9% error from the swap considered, I do not get as good mileage as I used to... very weird!

N0DIH
04-24-07, 04:48 PM
I have heard people getting mpg like that, but mine has never come close to that, best of 21 and change, maybe brushing 22. Not sure what the deal is, previous owner never got over 20, so I am at least doing better....

I might drop in a temp axle so I can get mine rebuilt with the posi I have. mine is getting noisy from the bad axle shafts from the 170K on the factory wrong diff cover gasket..... :(

3.73's sound way too steep for an L05 car, with those gears it would run out of breath quickly. I can see why people would want 3.42's. Honestly, I think 3.08's are just about perfect in an L05 car.

N0DIH
04-25-07, 10:20 AM
Even in the LT1 cruise at 2700 rpm (like 65 in D) is ok, but you do notice it is revving sorta high. I can imagine in a lower breathing engine it would be a real drag...

Just think, the L05 powered trucks got 4.10's in 2500/3500 form, so they dealt with it more often (the 4.10's is more like 3.73's in a car due to tire size).

UPDATE:

Found out with the help of another member that my car has the RIP liverly option, which is more rare and disirable in good condition I guess, so cool:bouncy:

Anyone have a list of what the liverly option all consists of, is it gears, heavy suspension, and bigger cooling system?

Wonder how many were made, is there a list someplace?

thanks.

N0DIH

It is rare to find in good shape, most are beat pretty good.

As much as I know:

R1P got FE2, V03 and 2.93's std. Most interior stuff is basic, they didn't go frilly on stuff, so base aluminum wheels are more common, white and black colors are most common. CD player often not optioned. Even a simpler climate control seen often too.

As for frame, not sure. Some say the V4P got the HD frame like the Impala SS and 9C1/9C6 cars did. Maybe R1P did too.

(Rest 1n Peace is how I remember what it is!)

But as for 100% sure what was standard? Ask Sandy, he might know too.
