What do most owners use in town..........do you select Drive or 4 on the automatic. Is there any kind of speed specified to be in 4 rather than D. For example selecting 4 in the city and D out on the highway or freeway.

I leave mine id D for the simple fact that todays trans's are computer controlled and KNOW the appropriate gear to be in at most times..

Depends on how you drive, and the driving conditions.

Automatic transmissions suck for performance, they want to get to 5th gear as fast as possible (I.E. 25 mph), in order to save gas mileage. If you need to accelerate out of a tricky spot, you have to wait for it to down shift, which in the SRX doesn't take long.

That being said, In the rain (or snow), I like to "feel the road". This can only be accomplished by manually shifting into a gear that keeps the car around 3k rpm.

thats how i run my business. And am quite upset when I drive a non-tiptronic vehicle
