Rruiz357 -nice rims... Looking at putting 20s on mine but worried about the small sidewall. Does the ride change alot and how does it ride on small pot holes?

What is the tire size you are running... Every where i look suggests 245/30/20 or 255/30/20.

I picked up my new 2008 STS 1SG a couple of weeks ago. I ordered it about a month before with everything including the Performance Handling Package (18" x 8.5" seven spoke wheels, Michelin Pilot Sport summer only tires, and Brembo brakes). but did not get the Driver Awareness Package. The dealer installed an E&G mesh grill and 35% tint. I traded my 2005 STS4 1SG with 62,500 miles.
I didn't want AWD this time, especially because of the cost, lower gas mileage and the Gas Guzzler Tax. It hasn't snowed here the entire time I owned to '05. My daughter just moved to Chicago, so Summer visits only.
I've found that the RWD is a much better handliing car and much more nimble. I loved the '05, but the '08 is even better. I am posting some pictures and have changed my avatar. How do I change my user name? It's out of date!

Nice car! That color looks so good on the STS. I love it.

What color is the interior? From what I can tell from the pictures, it looks black which is my favorite combination with that color, but it may just be the window tint making the interior look dark.

05STSWOW
11-25-07, 11:53 PM
Yes, it is ebony Tuscany leather. My previous STS was Redline with the cashmere Tuscany leather and this combination is much more dramatic and it's UGA colors... Go Dawgs!
Next project is painting the Brembo calipers red. I would love to have the drilled rotors available from Cadillac, but at $375 per it ain't gonna happen.

Wow. This is very much like what my own collection would look like.

I want.......no, I NEED the 1969 Brougham. One my best friends has a black one with a dark brown twill cloth interior. (I had a 1970 model once in my youth)

I also feel the 1980-85 Seville is an underappreciated sleeper. I thought, even at the time it was new, that it would end up being a sought-after style. Like the '59's became.

Is the Silver Spirit a LWB, Mulliner- Park Ward??

The XKE is indeed a thing of beauty.

Do you ever show any of these at local Concours?

The '81 Seville won first in its class at the '04 Cadillac Grand National. The '84 Rolls is a LWB Silver Spur. The E Type is a '74 with the automatic. The '60 Cadillac won first place in its class at the North Texas Cadillac Regionals. The '69 Brougham is for sale and is by far the best preserved example of that body style I have ever come across, and I look all the time. It is just incredible how free from age it is. For example here I have a pic of the engine bay on the link; this is all the original paint under the hood, on the radiator supports, fender liners, air cleaner, etc. Please see the link for pics of that Cadillac and more.

Hi08STSwow,
very nice looking car bur Im wondering why you didn`t get the V!!!! The price diff. in the US from your 08 to the V isn`t very significant.
How do you like the Brembos? I love them on my 07 export model, the V8 have them on starting from the 05 model here in Germany.

RWD is allways more fun then AWD:thumbsup:

I would love to have an STS V, but two things stopped me: it's $15k more expensive and you can't get a red one.
I love the Brembos so far. They are smoother and apparently much more powerful (too new to lay on them yet) than the performance brakes on the 1SG. I don't expect them to start with the horrible grinding noise the performance pads had on the regular 1SG.
Does anyone have a handle on pad and rotor life compared to standard brakes? My '05 required pads twice and rotors once in 62,500 miles. It was probably close to due again when I traded.

08STSwow,
no grinding noise from my brakes but I only have about 10K miles on mine. I usually need new brake pads on front all 30.000 km (about 18K miles) but I drive my STS or my XLR very fast on the Autobahn what makes the life shorter than your highway driving around 70 - 80 mph in the US. You should get around 30 - 40K miles out of the front pads.

Do you know anything about the Macon's old airship hanger at Moffett? I thought I read that it was being torn down.

It's still there & hope it stays.
A little history about Hangar One at Moffett Field Naval Air Station in Mtn. View, CA.

Thanks for this.

I remember reading recently that it was coming down because of a toxic run-off caused by a compound used on the exterior. The LTA folks want it saved as do I. A very important bit of history might be lost.

How's the STS?

I don't think I could part with such a beautiful thing as your '69!

I used to be a member of the CLC myself. It's been a while since I've been to a Grand National, though.

Do you know where it's going to be next year?

How's the STS?

Aside from the intermitent front suspension "rattle" & a small "dent & scratch" on the hood from driving thru flying debris on the highway, she's doing fine.
Thanks!:xlol:

I do not know the location yet, but I am so busy now I am sure I cannot attend this year. It is a great event with many nice people. My price is high on the '69 so I do not think it will sell anyway.

Do your wheels rub a lot in the front now that it is lowered? I'm looking to put on a lowering kit but I dont know how much i can go in the front because I also have 22" wheels. Also I was wondering what kind of lowering kit you used and how much was it?

Nothing rubs...anywhere...ever! I am running a 245/30/22 on a 22x7 inch rim....I used the Intrax Springs (they are really the only company that sells springs for the STS, D3(supporting vendor on this forum) is coming out with their own springs soon...might want to check them out....anyway...the intrax springs are a 1.5 inch drop all around...they are about 260.00 depending on where you get them but Intrax has a national backorder on the springs for probably the next 6-10 weeks......so good luck finding a set....call intrax directly and see when the next batch is coming out www.intrax.com ....good luck....

I would go for the smoked lights, They make the car look ALOT better.

Got everything from Ebay.

Paid $270 Shipped for the taillights and $370 shipped for the Grill.

I didnt get the car until Mid March so I missed out on the snow :(

I bought this car last year (2007)with 3000 miles on it. It had been customized with the soft top, wire grille, the spoiler, 20" low profile wheels and the vents. I removed the low profile tires because of the not so caddy ride.

It's good to hear that others like the stock grill! I keep going back and forth; my wife likes the stock grill.

Interestingly, I originally wasn't very excited about the wheels, because they were chrome. I've never had chrome wheels before, and was worried that they would look too flashy in a bad way. But I actually like them!

Overall, I'm just so impressed with this vehicle. Effortless acceleration, great handling, awesome stereo, and tons of gadgets.

For those who like the stock grille, but want to change the appearance, have the grille painted to match the rest of the car. I did this to mine, and think it looks really nice. Also had the license plate holder painted to match. Not really expensive - I know I paid under $200 to a GM bodyshop to have it done. Just my $0.02.

I will post pictures when I get my hands on a camera...

This is my 05 N* navi perf and handling package, the wheels are 17" boss wheels which I think are hideous, all I wanted for winter wheels where just plain steel wheels, my company ordered 4 different sets of steels for it and non would fit over the large calipers in the front. So I ended up with these over priced uglies, I live in Ontario Canada, so I NEEED winter tires and wheels! I cannot wait to put the factory rims back on, and hopefully get some nice D3 wheels and accessories on it. Not to many of these around since they are $100 grand brand new with these options.

Best thing to do to make it unique to you would be wheels and grill. Since there are SO many wheels on the market, you are bound to find one you like that no one else is running on an STS. Custom grill installed would make it even more unique than another gold STS w/ wheels.

Those vents are from an 87ish Buick GNX. There used to be a couple companies who offered them in the aftermarket. Hope that helps!!!

Those are interesting side vents, turnerbend. I've never seen those types of vents on a Cadillac.

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get those done and were they outrageously expensive?

Sorry the previous nowhere post....Those vent are from an 87 Buick GNX. There were some companies producig them in the aftermarket, not sure if they are still out there though...Hope that helps!

Pictured is my late father-in-law's '07 STS that we just inherited with 7,100 miles on it: V6 w/Luxury package, sunroof and E&G Classic grill. We call her "The Dadillac." The license plate honors my ship, USS CONSTELLATION, an aircraft carrier, my duty station during my time in the Navy. It seems much more appropriate to the Dadillac than it was on my previous car, a 1990 Miata!

specs on wheels? size? offset?

inurok
04-11-09, 04:19 AM
This is my 05 N* navi perf and handling package, the wheels are 17" boss wheels which I think are hideous, all I wanted for winter wheels where just plain steel wheels, my company ordered 4 different sets of steels for it and non would fit over the large calipers in the front. So I ended up with these over priced uglies, I live in Ontario Canada, so I NEEED winter tires and wheels! I cannot wait to put the factory rims back on, and hopefully get some nice D3 wheels and accessories on it. Not to many of these around since they are $100 grand brand new with these options.

Ugly or not why would someone order CHROME rims for winter rims?

The car was scheduled to be in the actual park infront of this big oak tree. but as soon as we parked it and laid it out there, police came and asked us to move it, the video company didnt have a valid permit to shoot in that location, so it was moved to the closest parking lot, i took those pics on my cell phone while they were finishin up this scene... but next month when my car is redone i will get some professional photos done...

STE, I love the lights. they look amazing. That is exactly what I want to change my lights to when I put on my 08 front bumper. 10k seems perfect. Tell me, what were the exact parts you purchased, where did you get the lights, and how much?

STE_6000
05-31-09, 11:16 AM
I bough Ruff (company) HID Kit, Gen 3 55W 10,000K lights.
I got H3 for the fogs, and H11 for the low beams. There isn't a lot of room to work with on the low beams so getting high beams might be hard to do both. High beams are 9005 bulb. I hardly use my high beam a lot so i thought it was worthless to change them, but when you run them it is a huge difference in color and output, but again i barely use my high beam.

Here is a link to the ebay one I won. Though the price was $30 dollars cheaper, like a temp sale. Either way it is well worth the price. I had similar lights in my Buick LeSaber and my Mercury Capri convertiable. So I couldn't not have it. Click here for ebay link. (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140309019603) If anyone has more questions or wants to hit me for taking the front bumper off on my own, let me know.

Oh ya, this might be a good time to get new bulbs in the headlight to. They are 192/194 wedge style bulb. Tried not to go over 2 led wedges, as anything bigger will most likely not fit. Normal wedge bulbs will look to yellow compared to the head lights. so get atleast xenon white style leds.

Ok, it was a pain in the ass, but I installed a Volant Cold Air Intake in my Caddy this weekend. It is damn mean now when you lay into it!!!!!!!

Problems I ran into? well the intake tube they provided was way to big, bend wise, for the car without taking some of the plastic housing where the fan was. I used the original tube which worked great and is as big as the volant tube, just not as bended. Over all it took a little effort and the outcome is one mean sounding caddy without any exhaust when you are at WOT.

Yeah, hit me up with some photo documentation on your project of getting the bumper off and the install on the lows. Is the H11 the fac replacement style bulb for the lows? Are they plug and play or you have to modify the wiring harness any? On a C5 vette, I used the 9005's in my lows (after trimming off a small tab to make them fit like the 9006. There were some startup problems so had to use a relay system to get them to light up everytime. Huge difference though.

Anything you could offer on your DIY would be great.

STE_6000
06-15-09, 10:21 PM
As for the DIY on it, you need to take the bumper off, past that its cake walk. H11 is the standard low beam, 9005 is the high beam. You can get them off Sylvania for the bulb types. If you have any questions past that let me know.

Not sure what the loose noise is in the exhuast video, it is not there in the real life hearing of it.

For the Front bumper removal, any tips or things that may help us? I have 3 HID kits and a set of Wedge bulbs under my desk here at work, but don't want to take my bumper off if its a 2 hours to take off 2 hours to put on type thing as I need to replace it anyways and would rather drive around with my fogs on instead of waste a bunch of time. Any estimates as to time wise for bumper removal? Tips and tricks would be greatly appreciated!

Since i never did a Cadillac like this before. It took me like 5-6 hours on a lift. I know laugh it up, im not that mechanically gifted haha. Anyway I didn't do high beams, granted with some work you could find room, there isn't much to fit both high and low beams. So i'd run with lows and fogs only. yes the wedge bulb is 192/194 style. I hide the low beam amp under the light itself, and I tucked the fog lights behind the metal frame by drilling some small holes to mount them.

Anyone that has a new caddy knows it won't rev past 4K in part so ya i'm gonna get an outside video of it in motion so you can hear it full out. I didn't take of the resonators cause I didnt want the interior sound to be loud, but that might still change. Not sure what the loose noise is in the exhuast video, it is not there in the real life hearing of it.

What year is your STS? That looks like an 08? Did you have to modify the rear hangers for it to fit? My kit was Pt# 14157 (for 05-07) and took a chance to see what the difference was. I had to weld new hangers for the rear mount. The hangers in the kit were to short. Also, it looks like you did some welding on the exhaust pipe or added an extension or something on the inlet side?

I DO love the sound now. Even the idle has a very nice low rumble to it, but hardly any resonance inside. I too need to hang a mic out the trunk for sound outside. It's just not even close to what you hear in a highly insulated cabin.

Here are some changes I made: spoiler, stainless rocker moldings, door handle covers, body color antenna, body side moldings with bright insert, trunk molding and relocated emblems, and bright interior trim like Platinum edition. Nothing major but needed something to brighten up the exterior.

About the chrome interior moldings, did you simply order them from Cadillac? If so, would you mind saying how much they cost? Did you install them yourself?

I went to our local car paint and body shop supplier and found a 21ft roll of adhesive backed mylar trim molding 1/8 wide. I cut it to length and carefully fit it into the grooves that exist between the various parts. It fits in those grooves perfectly and so far is holding well in out AZ heat. I was really surprised what a difference it made. Total cost $21 with about 10ft left. I figured that GM parts wouldn't sell those separately since the supplier ships the pads with the inserts already installed.

I also put a thin strip right on top where there is an indentation right next to the window.

I bought one of these for my Z3 before, and it looked like the little chrome half tube things with adhesive on the back.

Any idea before I spend $30 on this crap?

Hi, new to the forum registration wise, and i just wanted to show you guys my STS! Changes I made to it were the grill, corsa exhaust, euro tail lights, and the clear third brake lights. I also took out all the signs on the trunk off, makes the car look alot cleaner.

That is a beautiful car. I love the wood interior and wheel. The mesh grill will greatly enhance the looks. Keep the factory wheels, I love them. I now wish I had them on my car rather than the cheap after market wheels I have.

I think I might have to get that wood wheel. If anyone is interested, I may be willing to sell my factory 17's.
