A couple of days ago I pushed the switch to let my driver window down using express down and the window stopped about halfway down. After cycling the switch for about a minute I finally got the window back up. I meant to not touch it again until I found out what was going on but of course I forgot and later that day tried to let the window down again. Again it stopped about halfway down but this time I couldnt get it to go back up no matter how long I cycled the switch. I had a similar problem a couple of years ago but the fix then was to just take the drivers switch box out and clean the oxidation off the leads under the switches and everything was good as new. That didnt work this time so it must be another issue. Does anyone know what would cause the window to just stop working. Could it be a burnt out motor or something? Fuse? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Its possible the glass has broken free from where it attaches, but most likely you need a new window regulator. Might as well pop the door panel off and investigate, all youve got to lose is a few clips at most.

Humm, It doesnt sound like its detached from anything. By that I mean, I dont hear any motor whirring while the glass stays in one place or anything like that. So you dont think it could be an electical problem but maybe this window regulator? How much do those cost? Also, what are the exact steps I take to pop off the door panel? I could probably figure it out by tinkering with it but to save time and if there are any intricacies I should now about Id appreciate it if you could run me through the precedures. Thanks.

Well you didnt make it clear on the second go-round whether or not you still HEARD the motor trying to raise or lower the window with resistance when you press the buttons on the door.

If your not hearing ANYTHING, then it could very well be a shorted out wire in the harness that runs from the door to the cowl. This is usually the number one culprit of door mysteries. However, this usually wreaks havoc with the power doorlocks and lighting as well... Usually, but not always.

If you are *NOT* even hearing a "click" or seeing the lights dim at all when your applying pressure to the switch, Id say you have an electrical problem. Otherwise Id say somethings bound or your regulator is shot.

I'll let one of the guys with your body style of Seville reply with the panel removal instructions. Im sure its a couple screws and several clips, but I'd rather one of them address that.

Well to clear it all up I am not hearing anything except the click of the circuit trip when I try and cycle the switch. As far as the door, I figured it out earlier today. Did get a chance to tinker around inside though as something else came up so I dont know what the problem is yet but thanks for your help.

you should be able to swap switches from other door, to see if it is a bad switch. Dealer told me once to hit it hard, as the motor contacts tend to get pitted over time. Hitting door hard sounds dumb, but it does work sometimes.

Actually it kind of makes sense, but Ive heard a different variation which is to slam the door hard (obviously not so hard to break the window!! ) and that works surprisingly well.

I had the same problem with my back passenger window. It stopped working one day. One of my friends said to slam the door and it might start to work. I thought it was a dumb idea but I tried it nevertheless. And it actually worked. Almost 2 years now. It is worth a try.

Slam the door!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had the same problem with my 93 on a few of the doors and that fixed it.

I WISH slamming the door was the fix but I tried it several times and it didnt work. Maybe it IS this regulator thing.
