: Does the aurora N* have the same issues?

It may seem like an obvious question but I was just wondering. Both in the first gen and second gen. I know they were a little less powerful than the Caddy's. But do they have the same issues as the caddy northstar ei;oil consumption, cooling system maintainence. and were they built in the same factory?

I don't see why not. They are the same exact engine, just a tad smaller.

Other than the fact that the labor on an aurora is rediculous, if you can find someone that'll work on it.

In general, it doesn't seem like the 4.0 has the headgasket issues, at least to the same degree that it seems like the 4.6s do. The Aurora has a smaller bore, has more "meat" between the cylinders (same block, same bore spacing), and doesn't make quite the power the 4.6 engine makes. In fact, comparing the 4.0 (250 hp) to the 300 hp version of the 4.6, the 4.0 is down about 17% in power. That's not insignificant. If you added 17% more power/pressure to a 4.6, without any reinforcements, you'd probably see an increased occurance of headgasket problem.

I've talked to a couple of Aurora owners who have had HG problems just like I had with my Deville.

I've never heard of as many oil problems, but HG problems seem much worse.

This answer is not based on science.

FWIW, I have a new AWD STS with a 320HP VVT North* and it really sounds neat when you put your foot in it. I'll let you know in a couple of years if it has headgasket problems.

It may just be me, but general consensus is that the RWD Northstars have nowhere near the rep that FWD Northstars do.
