IIRC .017 . Tune-up specs are on this board.

Chiltons lists .016" for the point gap. More importantly, set the dwell angle to 30* (28* to 32*), assuming the car is running and you have a dwell meter. Also if it is running, you can try the following alternative method from my shop manual: (1) Turn adjusting screw in (clockwise) until engine begins to msifire. (2) Turn wrench 3/4 turn (270*) in opposite direction (counterclockwise), and then turn clockwise 1/4 turn (90*) to obtain proper gap and dwell.

You set the points then always check dwell. Just setting the gap is half the job. The dwell can be set with the engine cranking and the secondary of the coil grounded if you are quick enough. In other words the car doesn't even have to be running..

Get a tach / dwell meter at Sears or most auto shops - get an old style one that is meant for points / condenser. You also need a 1/8" allen wrench. Lift up the window on the distributor cap and you can adjust the points while the engine is running! Note this only applies to GM V8s from 1968 to 1974 after which they went to HEI.

Yet another example of GM engineering triumphs in the late 60s!
