Did anyone hear that next year Onstar wont be working on most GM vehicles? They said that it's something to do with cellular service going from analog to digital, and most GM vehicles will lose their Onstar service because of this. I didn't see anything about model years , and what we can do to continue Onstar service if we have an analog system? Will there be any kits or upgrades to change our Onstar service to digital? I am assumming that there would be, but is GM going to pay for the upgrades? One last item, I have an '06 SRX, V6 that I have had for only a year. Are 2006's affected by this change or is the current Onstar system already set up for digital?

Do a forum search for "onstar digital upgrade" or any combination and you will see a number of topics about this.
With an '06 SRX you do not need to upgrade.
Yes GM pays for it if you pre-pay a 1 year subscription to OnStar services.
(provided your vehicle is eligible, and it has analog equipment)

There's a site "somewhere" that you plug your VIN into and it tells you what you have. Hopefully someone has the link.

06's shouldn't be affected. All 05's I believe had analog/digital capability. I also think that GM is sending out letters to those affected.

As info...
My 2005 N*, which was built in Dec 04 (purchased early 05), had dual capabilitiy. It appears that just about every 05 was analog/digital.

I just checked my 04 built in Oct. 03 and it is analog only.

Yes, 04 will need an upgrade.
