While my transmission was being done, the guy told me that some manifold looking thing with a bunch of tubes going into it was leaking coolant a little bit.

What is this part he's talking about and how difficult is it to replace the gasket / seal?

Take a picture of it and post it. Your description is a little vague and my ESP isn't coming in really good today.

LOL well he hasn't shown it to me yet so that's all I have. He said it's on the left side of the engine (I think) and it has to be called some type of manifold because it looks like a bunch of tubes.

I asked him if it was easy to get to and he said it's not to bad form the top. Remember he was under the car. I'll have more info tomorrow afternoon.

If it's on the passenger side of the engine, and if your '01 DTS is set up similar to my '97 SLS, there is a heater hose junction "manifold" below and behind the power steering pulley area. It has about 3-4 hoses entering/exiting it. I don't know if that's what he's talking about or not.

My '01 isn't like my '97 in that regard, but it also sounds like your '01 isn't like my '01 (DeVille vs. Seville), so I just don't know! :)

if he called it a "manifold looking thing" you should take your car somewhere else

LOL normally I would agree but he's a transmission specialist. That's all he does. Trans and Diff.

He's been doing it well for over 30 years and has an impeccable reputation. He does have some old school hot rodding experience but he's not a new engine kind of guy.

There is a good chance he is looking at the coolant crossover assembly.
