My dad wanted a new car so I didnt know what he wanted... I tried to convince him to get a new lade but he really wanted the Lexus LS460L. So what my dad wants he got. I got him a new LS460L. Here are the pics. I'm gonna put him on Asanti 20s Staggered.. I'll update the pics when I get it.

You know I was gonna be nice and congradulate you/your dad on a fine choice in a Lexus LX470 after I saw the title, a vehicle I have no problem with... but I cant defend this one.

Not gonna touch the fact that it was between an SUV and a car, because Ive been there myself. But an LS of all things?!

I can understand if you had said 750Li, S Class, STS, etc etc. But I just dont see how someone LUSTS after an LS and decides for that over an Escalade. LS's are just... well... Jesda pretty much summed it up.

Nice car, but thats pretty much it... a "nice" car.

Good choice, not my choice, but an Escalade and a 460 is about as different as there is.

Good choice man, I've seen one in person, it was a bit smaller than I thought, but still gorgeous and stands out among those S-s and 745s. Can't wait to see it on brand name 20s.

Among the 745s?
That Lexus looks like what I would imagine an economy 7-series to look like.
All of the Bangled lines, but none of the interest.

Well overpriced BMW-s and other european luxury cars might be exclusive in USA, but they sure aren't in here! I see plenty of those every day and in fact I drive a Mercedes myself, but I have only seen one LS460

Wasn't my choice... thats what he wanted... thats what he got. I didnt like it at first either but after getting it, I totally have a different view now.

Its ok that a lot of you guys dont like it..... i dont care I just wanted to share with you guys.

I like my lade but the quality does not compare to this.

The Lexus LS460 is one of my favorite cars - for many reasons. So.. Nice choice! Of course, I love the Escalade as well - but for those who want the ultimate in luxury - I think the LS460 is the way to go.

Would I trade my Escalade for one? No. I'm a Cadillac enthusiast and I love my truck. But I'll never put somebody down for wanting or buying the Lexus LS. :)

Nice car! Don't listen to some of these guys... the LS isn't targeted at the early-mid twenties crowd, so it's natural it receives such a response.

I've driven the S class, 7 series (most overrated car ever IMO) and the LS. The LS is the quietest, smoothest, most comfortable car I've ever been in personally. The S class, for me, was a very close second. I hated the 7 series.

At any rate, good choice. My ESV is hitting the lot as quickly as I can get it there - the LS is something I'm seriously considering. I'd love to hear your dad's opinion of it thus far. :)

Good luck.

I'm sure it's a nice car, just not exactly a car I would buy. I have a 7 series and have had it for 10 years.. hell, 10 1/2 now... The LS is quieter, softer, etc... all qualities I am not too big on.

The 740 Dances like no other big fat car can, that's why I like it.

LSs are just too boring for me, but it's not a bad product.

but, i got the CTS because it made me happy. I wanted it. U cant force a car on someone, if they are to enjoy something, they've got to desire it. U got him what he wanted and thats was the right thing to do--for that  good job.
my dad loves mini's ... he's loved them ever since they were called "mini minors'' .. i wasnt even born back then. When i get older and have some money i'm getting him his mini... even tho i hate those cars.

anyway, good decision.

I'm not fat, bald or old enough to drive a Lexus.

I'm greasy enough to ride FAT ELDO around though.

Yes i'm gonna get him 20s... I drive that car sometimes too so Its gotta look good... plus the stock wheels look like crap. I only get the best for my dad... If you really think about it your parents take care of you your whole life. So whats $ you know.

Very cool and stylish.
My favorite thing though is the exhaust tips in the bumper.
I saw one of these the other day. I'd take one.

Same thing with GM Cars guys. You cant tell me an Avalanche & EXT don't look the same... or the new Tahoe Yukon & Escalade dont all look the same. You pay for the name and the luxury.

I have a tough time driving cars that are rebadged entry level rides, that's just not special.

I am special. :)

My V is entry level, it makes me feel special everytime I stand on it.

The LS460L is very nice and makes the driver feel good, sleepy maybe but good.

The fact that that the ES300 is sold as a Camry in Japan is enough for me.

I have tremendous admiration for the new LS as a piece of technology. Like a shiny new Treo phone, its functional and clean. It isn't, however, a timeless or original design that stirs emotion or makes me turn around to look at it again and again while walking away. It doesn't offer handling that makes it a thrill to throw around corners or straight-line performance that bests the $60k+ competition.

Extreme comfort + luxury + resale value. Thats what it is in summary.

The problem with a car built around a bunch of gadgets is that eventually, technology gets cheaper and low-end cars start to adopt the same features. That shiny new Treo phone becomes plain rather quickly.

A car has to have more than just toys to offer lasting personal value. But I guess if you're trading it in within two years its a non-issue.

At the end of the day a Lexus is an appliance. A damn good one but never the less an appliance. If you want to get in a high tech Refrigerator (a really nice refrigerator) and drive it around you can't beat 'em.

pregnancy, insurance, car, food, clothing, allownce, college, the list goes on and on... i think u owe them AT LEAST a lexus on chrome asanti's ;) ... (points coming ur way, just gimme a second to post this lol)

Exactly. You can put as many toys in a car as you want, but it'll never make the car fun to drive, memorable or give it sentimental value. Only the car it's self can make it fun to drive, or give it sentimental value. Think of it like this... the car is the cake, the toys are the frosting. No amount of frosting can fix a godawful cake.

Too bad you didn't consider a Lincoln Town Car L-series. That's the one which is stretched out 6" compared to a regular Town Car.
If I were to buy a new car, that would be one of the very, very few I would want.

Like you said, thats in Europe, and since the OP is in the USA...

Just like Jesda said, meh. That Lexus is just an appliance for the rich. Its a car for people with money who dont care about cars. At least the 750iL handles well for its size. The LS460 I drove reminded me of why theres such products out as Viagra and beard dye.

I traded with a friend, my V for a 750Li a few weeks ago. This was supposed to go for a week or so, but I snuck in his garage and took my V back the next morning. That 750Li was a BOAT. Keep in mind I drove a 1973 Eldorado to work this morning, so this is said by a guy that knows his boats. That Bimmer is a BOAT.

Lexus sure does make boring cars, but great value, and very reliable. And FINALLY, they make some fine looking sedans. Pictures dont do the LS justice, you have to see it in person, it's gorgeous. So is the IS, and the GS. Even the new ES (which is the only one to share a Toyota platform to keep the cost down.) I think SUV's are an absolute waste (even though I own one) so I wont comment on Lexus's.

That and better chassis response. It's pretty numb from everything I read. But if you like toys, the IS (and ES and GS for that matter) has all the toys you need.

The IS350 drives great. I drove one at the "Taste of Lexus" thing and that thing corners. It was great. This is gonna sound crazy though. The big 750li i drove at the same event felt better in the turns.... no joke! BMW's feel great!

IS sedans are a bit too small for my taste though.

The only thing I really like on the Lexus is the flush exhaust pipes. You have to admit they are pretty cool. I can't imagine what happens to the paint near them though. Oh well.

Nice car, not that it would ever be my choice, but still.

I bet there is a heat shield built in to the finisher.

I agree, if I was simply interested in commuting, and not driving, it is hard to go wrong with a Lexus.
