i just replaced the intake manifold gasket and put new gaskets on the carb while it was off. i took some pics of the vacuum hoses...so they look like they are ok. but now she has a really fast idle. without a tach its hard to gauge but if before it was idling at 600, now it must be about 900-1000 rpms.

any ideas on how to narrow down my problems

Sounds like a vacumm leak. Spray some starting fluid around the manifold and carb base while the engine is running, when the idle increases you have found the leak.

I second the vacuum leak... You have to follow a specific pattern when installing the intake manifold, if not installed correctly it is likely that is the cuplrit.

What kind of gaskets were installed?

one of the vacuum lines did have a slight crack in it. hate those pesking little things....

im seriously considering putting in a tbi engine just to eliminate them
