Would a 425 oil filter fit a 472 ? the parts book at the shop i was at only listed a 425 filter so im woundering if it would fit or not? would save me some hasles trying to hunt down one.

tell me about it, there book only goes back to 1979 wich is a 425, so it being a big block i figured ied ask you guys and see what you have to say about it?

lol well i have none of thoughs part stores up here in Canada, it would have to be Lordco parts, Napa parts, or one of the many others around here, but the store i was talking about in general was walmart and they suck for older info in there books. I wanted to get it there because there filters are cheep, but im going to have to break down and go eles where .. anless someone knows for sure if the 425 will fit the 472?

go to autozone.com (or whichever one, really)and look up the part number, then go back to walmart and see if they have it.

I usually use partsamerica.com, which is pretty much the supplier of Advance Auto. The website provides free shipping for over $50, and tax is ludicrously low.

Whereabouts in Canada just out of curiosity? I would guess they are interchangeable, but it is only a guess. I too live in Canada and didn't have any trouble getting a filter at my local auto-parts store (local chain).

Thought I saw in these forums somewhere that the 425, 472, and 500 are the same family of engines, and therefore could share the same filter. If you have a Napa, go there and be done with it. Sometimes you get what you pay for, and trying to save a few pennies on a cheaper filter may not be worth it in the long run. IMHO

Thats what i thought and made this topic to see what people had to say about it, walmart has the good filters there the same as the popular parts places just a bit cheeper! and there nice and close to me and i dont have to have some part guy hold my hand to get them either! Also i thought this would be a good conversation which its turning out to be :):):):) but so far no one knows for sure :confused:

They didnt list the 500 or the 472 only the 425 and only displayed as far back to 1978 in the Fram booklet and the oil filter in my caddy is not a Fram so it dosent have the #'s im looking for.

Parts store oil filters aren't really much more expensive than Walmart. I just got one for my 92 Deville at Carquest and I think it was 2 bucks. In every oil filter test I ever read, Fram always comes in dead last. One test I remember couldn't tell the difference between a Napa gold and Napa silver; Carquest was the same as Napa silver.

There you will discover that you can use a Mobil M1203, K&N HP2003, Purolator L20033, Fram TG25, etc. They probably have one of the cheaper ones at Walmart. K-mart has way better oil filters though.

That is the Number, and it is personal preferance on the filter, my engine builder has been building race motors for Irwindale, and Fontana raceway drivers for some time, and he recommended Fram. Thanks

So i went and looked at there filters again at Wallyword (Walmart) and they have no such # Fram TG25 so i went to Crappytire (Canadain Tire) because they stock Fram and no luck with them? are you sure that the TG25 is the right filter # ? this weekend if i havent found them at these places im just going to go to Napa or Lordco..:bouncy:

It looks like you can use Fram TG25, PH25 or DG25. PH25 is the cheapest and probably easiest to find. But I strongly suggest you just suck it up and go to NAPA right away. You should be boycotting Walmart anyway because they are dropping a new SuperCenter on top of my freaking house even though there is already one next door.

If i remember correcty they had these numbers there, ill double check and see. If it dosnet turn out then im going to a parts store.
