: 99 to 96 swap question

Ok, so Im putting the 99 STS motor in my 96 STS and have 2 questions. The 99 fuel rails are different then my 96, they run from injector to injector and exit on both sides, my 96 was a straight silver tube and exits only on one side. I heard that there was a recall problem but dont know for which, if I decide to put in the 99 ones Im going to have to modify the fuel lines in order to connect them. Question is what would you do? Is one better then the other?

And second, I noticed that the 99 fuel filter housing doesn't have exits for the oil cooler lines like the 96 did. So if anyone out there has a 99 or 98 can you look where the tubes from the left side of the radiator go to.

The fuel rail recall was for the '95 - '97's. It was to replace the nylon fuel rail with a stainless steel rail.

So you're saying that there is no need to replace the one I already had on the 96 with the one from the 99, there is no flow difference between how they are set up?

I think the '99 still had a nylon rail, albeit a different compound, so I am told. That is why it was not recalled. If your '96 has the stainless steel rail, I would try to use it.

One more question, I got a 99 alternator and see that it's water cooled from the 2 hoses coming out of it, can someone tell where these hoses hook up to or how that whole set up is configured- I dont have a 99 FSM. Thanks again
