My neighbor is buying a stock 2000 or 2002. I forgot what year. I think its got a 350 in it with a six speed gearbox. Do I have to worry about losing fastest car on the block title???

Anyone know the best Corvette forum. He isn't a gearhead and will need advice.

In straight line acceleration, here's the winner in quarter mile(seconds, mph):

#72 1999 Corvette LS1 12.98, 108.85
#85 2005 Cadillac CTS-V 13.1, 109.8

I'm pretty sure you'd toast em, basing that on me running almost neck and neck with a c5 z06 at the end of the race my bumper was at the back of his door...so I would say your gonna keep your title. ;)

A Z06 would destroy a CTS-V with a good driver. But a C5 non Z06 vs. a CTS-V would be a drivers race. They run similar 1/4's and from doing some quick research it seems that they are trapping around the same mph also

This race will depend on the gearing in the vette. Your friend has a 6 speed so he has 3.42s and thus it should be a drivers race in the 1/4. C5s with autos come with 2.73s I believe and you will beat one of them for sure.

I raced a vette the other week on the highway and pulled about 2.5 car lengths. I have LTs, a tune, and intake but thats about it. In the quarter the 6speed vette and V are matched well but the V is not necessarly a 1/4 mile car, given rear end issues and how heavy it is.

I believe that stock for stock C5 (w3.42) vs CTSV from 60-120 will not be a drivers race. The V should pull a half a car here or more and from 120+ the vette should take over given its weight advantage and aerodynamics.

At the end of the day these cars are very close. Most corvette guys I have seen dont know how to drive so practive up on your shifts and you should win. Oh ps get a new shifter.

I would go from a roll. There are more C5s running 12s stock than CTS-Vs (if any) and that is due to the launch.

Any publized 0-150 times for the CTS-V? Per C&D, the E39 gearing is pretty good above 120mph:

E39 M5: 30.0 sec
C5 M6: 30.2 sec
SRT-8 30.6
