I have a 2004 Deville (base) with 60K miles on it. We changed brakes and immediately car started stalling upon starting and when stopping/slowing at turns and stop signs/red light. RPMs at idle now 450, were higher. They slow to 200 then car shuts off. Replaced battery. No affect - problem still exists.

Also, upon driving after the new battery installed, car shut off and absolutely no power. No dash, no flashers, no interior lights, steering wheel and brakes froze and I couldn't move the car off the road (was in the middle of the intersection). About 30 seconds later the power came on and I was able to start the car (until I had to slow down to turn a corner when it shut off again).

Any ideas? I'm getting it towed to a Caddy dealership but would like to know what to expect. Thank you for any insight you can provide.

Debbie

Have you pulled the DTC's ?

I'm sorry to be ignorant, but what are DTC's? I'm not technically savvy on cars. I would guess at "no". My husband is the one that changes brakes for us and he's never mentioned that word.

DTC = Diagnostic Trouble Code

Once you have them, decipher them here.

I can't imagine anything on the brake system that could cause this. He must have messed around with something else. Retrace the events. Touched any vac hoses, electrical connectors etc?
There will be a lot of code in history if you disconnected the battery. May have to clear them first.

Thanks Ranger and EcSTSatic! Since the dealer now has my car, I'm going to ask what codes were pulled.
