My 98 Sedan Deville has been running a little rough lately. It has 130K miles, when I stop at a red light the engine rpms will drop from 650 down to 575. When it does it I can feel the car sputter. The engine will do this for about a second and only does it periodically, but seems to be getting more frequent. I recently changed the fuel filter and spark plugs. This seemed to help for about a day and the problem continues, and today the car died at a red light. The car restarted just fine, there are no warning lights on.
The abs and traction light were on until I found a disconnected wire behind the right rear wheel. Besides that the car runs fine. It accerates good and drives at highway speed fine. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jon

At 130K your due for plug wires, but that should not cause it to die. Check the ICM connections and ground.

thanks ranger,
I checked the icm wires and ground it appears to be fine. I did notice that alot of members suggest ac delco plugs, I currently have autolite. I also noticed a little oil on the #6 spark plug threads. Is this a major problem, could this cause the hesitation?

The oil is seepage from the "O" ring in the cam cover plug well. I suppose you could have some carbon tracking. A plug inspection would tell. Not sure how well Autolites work in the Northstar.

Thanks again ranger, I will replace the rings soon.
Has anyone had negative experience w/ autolite plugs?

I cleaned the t.b. thinking that might be the problem, pulled codes and got many history and 1 current code (idle speed high). I turned the idle down, cleared all codes and the codes did not reappear. However, the car is still hesitating, stopped in drive. I will continue to mess with it, if anyone can think of anything let me know.

Thanks
Jon

Maybe your crankshaft position sensors are bad as far as it cutting off. I'm not sure. Also, my car is a 99 deville. It used to hesitate and feel like it was missing sometimes and cause a slightly rough idle. At first it was my plug wires. I replaced them and it cured it. Then my coil pack went out and it did the hesitation and rough idle again. Replaced it and it cured it. It would accelerate fine like there was nothing wrong. Just had problems at the low rpm range. I used Bosch plugs at one point but after 1000 miles(yes 1000)they shit themselves. I use ACDelco now. Those Bosch plugs are a waste of money.
