found a 68 Sedan deville for very affordable price, needs some paint work, brakes and exhaust. im pretty sure this car has a 472. how hard are parts going to be to find if i need them for this car? thats engine parts and other parts that may go bad? and what kind of gas mileage will it get?

are they fairly easy to work on, unlike the newer complicated caddys?

just curious about the mileage, it wont be an everyday car.

Yes that is the first year of the 472, parts are very easy to find still for the most part. I've never had too tough of a time getting a hold of even the most uncommon parts. My '70 Sedan with 472 gets about 12-13 mpg. They are also very easy to work on, lots of space under those big hoods, and nothing is very complicated, mostly vacuum operated things and the electronics, while prone to failure, are not hard to fix. It's just a matter of putting in the time.

Heh I don't know as much about the old Lincolns, but I think you'll find that the two really aren't all that different in how their systems work for the most part. Once you learn about one, the other won't be much different. That Lincoln has a 460 does it not? Thats a pretty simple and dependable motor as well. Decent torque as well.

I suggest (if you havn't already) going onto eBay and buying a factory service manual for your year Caddy and Lincoln, there is invaluable information in there that you will need when you start to dig into your cars.

I also suggest that you consider a conversion to electronic ignition and dump you current points setup. I did it on my Caddy, it was an extremely easy swap, not that expensive and made a huge difference in power, smoothness, and mileage.

Good Luck!

ill keep that in mind. i havent gotten the caddy yet, i made the guy an offer, and hes thinking about it. so who knows at this point..

however, the lincoln could use some help in the mileage dept.

i dont drive it much, but would like to be able to use it as a weekend cruiser. yes it has the 460. it was a fun car to drive in highschool, then 10 years of sitting has taken its toll on it. needs some rust work done now....
