WINDINGROAD .COM - - We?re going to have to have a few words with our friends at Infiniti about this, but for whatever the reason, we apparently missed out on a small G37 driving event recently. The curvaceous coupe was set to debut at the New York Auto Show early next month, but instead an early peak courtesy of Road & Track has sent the embargo dominos a-tumbling (surprise, surprise), with Edmund?s Inside Line and Automobile Magazine following suit.

In any case, we now have our first peek at the G37. Well, kind-of. WINDING ROAD actually got a look in-and-around the car back at an Infiniti Chicago Auto Show off-site event, we just promised to keep our mouths shut. In any case, we have to say that the new G37 is one sexy number, though in person, the exterior lacks the impact of the first-generation model. Of course, given that it?s a measured update of the original (surely one of the Japanese car design world?s greatest hits), perhaps we shouldn?t have expected our socks to be knocked off in quite the same way. The G Coupe remains very attractive, and aesthetically at least, stacks up favorably against BMW?s class-leading 3-series coupe (itself a looker).

In any case, Nissan?s 3.5-liter VQ-series V-6 has been bored out to 3.7-liters to now generate somewhere around 330 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque, and initial drive reports peg it as really bringing the fight to BMW?s twin-turbo 335i coupe. That means that prospectives should expect a 0-60 mph time in the 5-second range and exemplary handling poise.

We look forward to a hands-on stint in the G37 to assess the coupe for ourselves.

Nice lower profile. Details are too much Toyota. I dig the specs.

The front reminds me of the earlier Tiburons some. Might just be me.

I dig it. I think from some angles, in some colors, the current G35 Coupe looks *sort of* bland. I think the front fascia of the new model looks a tad bit aggressive, but much better than the 03-07 style.
