: 69 deville timing mark

hello everyone i have a 69 deville conv. I can no locate my timing marks i have been staring at the front of this engine for like a week the book said it should be located in the front of the engine but i cant find it.

Just based on memory I think it is straight up from the balancer at 12:00 position. not sure but maybe you have to look behind the water pump staight down.

Looking at the crankshaft pulley from the front, it's at about 1:00 or 1:30. Look for the tab sticking out that has a 0 and a 10 marked on it.

ok i found it so what do the markings mean
what do i set the timing to

i found the timing marks and there are three notches which one do i time to

5* BTDC. That would be the middle mark. Disconnect vacuum advance from distributor and plug the hose, disconnect and plug the vacuum line to the parking brake, set idle speed at 550 with car in Drive and the parking brake ON, then set timing at 5*. THen reconnect everything.

Get yourself a factory shop manual if you want the good information. I got one for $42 on ebay for the same car as you. The seller was Bishko Books.
