: Need others opinions on a car!!!

In my continued search for a new car i thought id also check out the SSEI Bonneville
0-60 7.5 Seconds stock but ive herd of them in as low as 5 second and doing the 1/4 in the 12s with an exhaust, pully, and minor tune...
So found one a 2000, fully optioned with a 45K on the clock for 11,400....
What are peoples opinions on them, i think they look pretty vicious! What are some other mods i should look into before i buy it, the thing thats drawing me away from Lac is this cars modabilty. The ETC just aint cuttin it at 14.2 anymore...

Great exterior, terrible interior.

Generally solid car, and benefits greatly from the shared and very rigid G-platform, the cheap to fix 3.8L, and the fairly interesting outside. On the bad side, for the size, it is the most oddly cramped of the G-bodies inside and the rest of that interior is really from the horrific days of Pontiac.

That all said, I'd highly recommend checking one out--especially for what you'd want. Similar refinement and size qualities that make a DTS or such nice, but really playable and less complicated mechanicals, and cheaper to buy in the first place.

Oh yeah, and after these, I'm reminded of a huge reason why I do like them...and would, really, drive one myself:thumbsup:

Love my Fleetwood, but given the chance anymore, something like this might be great with still being big and luxurious, and loaded with power, but still be able to easily get 30 mpg on the highway. The latter something I only dream about now...

If you don't mind how farking ugly it is inside and out, mod it and enjoy the ride.

Mid 90s and 2003+ were okay looking. At the end of the 90s they got crazy with the cladding.

Impala SS. The 96 version. Quit whining about it being an older car. :P They just don't make them like they used to.

buy a V....

but seriously any of the L67 cars are good choices... i'd look at a GTP before an SSEI ...

or even see if you can pick up an old Grand Nash or T Type, you'll have a LOT of gun with those G body's

I don't care for the looks of the late 90s - early 00s Pontiacs. Too much go-fast-wannabe cladding. How about a late 90s Buick Riviera. Same s/c engine, more comfortable, and more stealthy.

Say Jason, I was just thinking, how about a foreign car? I was looking around, and there are some early WRX's that can be had for under $15,000 with under 100k miles. Those can be modded quite easily and even start at a 14.5 1/4 mile. Actually, I'm kinda considering those a bit, they're fast, good on gas, somewhat inconspicuous, handle like a dream, turbocharged, and very well respected among other people in the field, and with the right optioning, they have some of the Cadillac's luxury features. There are loads of foreign cars that meet your criteria for performance, modifiability and luxury. Open your mind! :)

The 95-99 Rivs were FWD. Also check out the Olds Aurora and Park Avenue Ultras, two other FWD lux rides with extra oomph.

Yeah, but that Aurora has the Northstar, he wants something modifiable.

you can find ttypes modified running MUCH faster than 14.2 for less than 30k in really nice condition and they are sleeper as all hell...especially the ttype limiteds...vinyl roof...wire rims etc

That "burnout" is teriibly UNimpressive.... when the tires and ground are completly soaked with water, and water is countined to be spray at high volume at the tires durring the whole thing.... that is just not impresseive.... if anyone wants to waste their money on a set of tires, I can do the same thing with my stock 4cyl Isuzu truck.

I really like the 3800, they are a great engine..... the Bonnie is a nice looking car with a nice inteior... well, layout.... the materials are just cheap... but otherwise a nice car... my next car looks to be a s/c 3800 car.

and no, Chad an import will NEVER adorn my driveway, i know they are built in the US, i also know they are reliable but w.e, im a G.M. kid and very loyal to the brand!!!

and night yuh i thought i did too, till i showed up with everything and they told me they sold it out from under me....
irony is the 00 SSEI i was thinking about was just sold today, i emailed them offering 9500 for it, they sold it for 7400, they were asking 11,200....

Get yourself that Regal GS. If you need to, order the SLP package for the car and you'll have a GSX clone of sorts. The Regal is the best looking of the lot, and the interiors are far more superior to the Bonnevilles and GTP's.

CadillacSTS42005

Yeah, some would consider the Regal a plain car, probably because of the Century twin the Regal has running around out there and all, but structurally, they are rock solid, and the interiors are far better than some of the other GM 3800 powered cars. When you look at the exterior closer, you can see they are pretty nice outside too.

That said, you can order the SLP exhaust/tune package and all to make a Regal GS into a GSX clone. You'd probably get away with spending a lot less that you would for an actual GSX.

BUT GNs arent new
lol
ive always had nothing but older cars before this ETC
1969 Camaro
1974 Eldo Vert
1978 Mustang II
1983 Trans Am
i want a newer car lol like late 90s at oldest lol

to illum

yuh i agree but you cant find them or GXP (GTP slps)
however all of the performance for the GTP will work on the SSEI and its bigger and not as commonly used which is why i think the Bonni stands out

According to the Riv guys, the Regal has a floppy chassis.....

I like Aimee's '92 Regal... its still a W-body... actually, they didn't change much.....

Even with it's accident that damaged the enigne cradel and the engine now sits about an inch lower on the right (rear of enigne, tranny mount) after I spent 4 days working on it, it is finally running, driving, handling and stopping how it should...... very nicely actually.

If all goes as planned though, a Riv is next for me :) I've already done all my reasearch.

I won't go back to FWD unless I have to. I'd hunt down a RWD vehicle first. For 20k, could look at some of the BMW line, though be prepared if parts break.

RunningOnEMT
03-20-07, 10:29 PM
ok ... why do people freak out about RWD vs FWD in the snow

i've had worse luck with FWD in the snow think about it this way ...

your front wheels steer unless you're like my idiot brother and drive backwards down the street, in FWD they also power the car. as soon as you lose traction on your drive wheels its useless completely useless

with RWD you divide the functions... so even if you have reduced traction you still have steering with the front. if its bad enough that you think you're that much better off with FWD vs RWD stay off the road.

get decent tires and you can drive anything in the snow, there's a picture of matt millen driving his single turbo sn95 to mcdonalds and back in the middle of the detroit winter... damned car runs 8sec 1/4 mile and he drove it in the snow and not at idle either...

Well going by those criteria, the Supercharged 3800 seems like your best bet, but I must ask, have you ever thought about a Typhoon/Syclone? You could score a good example of either for under $20,000.

Forget the FWD nonsense... I have driven both and unless you have 4WD or AWD, you are screwed if you have any sort of ice or significant snow accumulation.

Get a slightly used GTO, by far the best bang for the buck:
