RobertCTS 03-17-07, 12:26 PM What do you plan on doing with it off? The word traction control is misleading. It has nothing to do with the LSD. It gains traction control by pulsing the brakes and throttling back the engine. If you're trying to do some spirited driving you don't want your brakes and engine slowing you down. Make sense?:) the cadillac kid 03-17-07, 12:40 PM having your t/c off lets you drift, burn out, also lets you accelerate quicker -- if you've ever punched it you'll feel the car kinda pull back for a fraction of a second and the display will read "Traction Engaged" .. with it off you traction control off you wont experience that mini stall and will make the acceleration smoother and the your time a bit faster. But if you're not planning on an adrenaline rush, then keep it on. i have an 06 too, and the only way i know of turning it off is the button in the glove box (you'll see a yellow light turn on between your tachometer and odometer). But listen to the ppl in this forum-- a lot of them can offer u a lot of valuable info Coolcrash 03-17-07, 01:21 PM Just wanted to know ... On my GTP I remove fuse 28 when I want to do burnouts jcdas 03-17-07, 01:25 PM I programed the #4 steering wheel control to turn off the traction control. Lot easier than reaching out into the glove box to turn it off. Just in case I get the urge to go fast. John. Coolcrash 03-17-07, 01:27 PM When I want to go fast I drive my GTP Blackillac9 03-17-07, 01:52 PM Sweet deal. I just got my 06 CTS a month ago and I love it tremendously. AznPrydeRegalRyde 03-17-07, 02:19 PM When I want to go fast I drive my GTP Woah, dude, half of your posts are about your GTP, sure you remember which forum you're on? :thepan: By the way, your GTP aint fast unless its turbo'd from intense and in the 10's ;) The turbo'd GTP is from Intense right? Kael, you'd know this... fwd GM boat and fast in the same sentence...lol :stirpot: Coolcrash 03-17-07, 02:33 PM hehe yea I tend to carry on about it don't I :) Coolcrash 03-17-07, 02:37 PM and yes it is Intense I tihnk that they have the 98 gtp , they are trying for 9's now , and this will be the last thing I say about GTP's :) AznPrydeRegalRyde 03-17-07, 02:38 PM hehe yea I tend to carry on about it don't I :)A bit, lol. So what do you have done to it? Actually, better question, how fast is your 1/4 mile? Bet I can guess the parts you've got based on your times :) Coolcrash 03-17-07, 03:15 PM never ran it at the track , but I have been told with what I have low 12's cts3.6 03-18-07, 11:01 PM I agree with John and programmed #4 Steering Wheel button for Traction Control on/off right after I purchased my 2005 3.6L. It is the handiest place, easy to turn on or off without having to take your eyes from the road. I find the placement of the sport mode button for the transmission works in the same efficient way. Quick changeovers for that ride through the twisty/turnies.... Much better traction there! :D :bouncy: Richie 03-19-07, 09:48 AM The other reason for shutting the T/C off is off you're in a moderate to heavy snow bank. This happened to me this past weekend. I was backing out of my driveway and the minute I hit some snow, the wheels stopped spinning and the car basically stopped. I was wondering why this was happening, then I remembered the traction control. I turned it off and I was able to pull out of the driveway with no problem. I turned it back on when I started driving regularly. By the way, the button is black in the 2007 CTS - someone had mentioned a red button. It would be better if it was red, I had a little trouble finding the button in the glove box. mocts 03-19-07, 10:33 AM its also black in my 04 RobertCTS 03-19-07, 11:00 AM its also black in my 04 The black buttons are defective. They should be red. Take it back! I agree that in snow TC can get you in trouble, specially with the throttling back on the engine at the wrong time like in a busy intersection. dkozloski 03-19-07, 11:32 AM A personal observation: At a slick intersection, step moderately on the foot feed and hold it. The traction control will sense the level of traction available and adjust engine power and "fiddle" braking to match. The first reaction is to peddle the car to regain traction much like a drag racer. Resist the urge. As much as you may want to deny it, traction control can more accuractely judge the road surface and make adjustments than you can. It's ABS in reverse. Nobody denies that ABS improves stopping over normal braking. It feels very unnatural but traction control works. Try it on a deserted stretch of icy road. The key is holding moderate pressure on the foot feed and don't try to outsmart it. Let it do its job just like you do with ABS. mocts 03-19-07, 02:41 PM The black buttons are defective. RobertCTS 03-19-07, 02:56 PM are you serious or just messing with me? When going up a small grade near my home I keep it at half pedal. The throttle kicks in and out and my CTS has never stopped. Love it!! But I have found myself in a situation where traffic was coming at me and I thought I had plenty of time to turn but the TC kicked in and throttled me back to a point that I was in danger. Without TC at least I was moving forward at a faster pace. It's a tough call. At times I use my steering wheel TC when I think I could have a problem. dkozloski 03-19-07, 03:19 PM I agree with you for the most part. Where the indecision comes is when the ice and bare pavement are patchy. Where traction control clearly wins is a drag race on a hockey rink. | |
