View Full Version : Audio System compfan03 03-23-04, 02:28 PM Am I the only one taken back by the lack of a cassette player? I often use it for books on tape and also to connect mp3 player via a tape-like adapter. Is there any way to connect an auxillary tape player through the stereo system. Well, I can't say I'm surprised about the lack of cassette. I haven't seen one in one of my vehicles since the 95 dodge. Haven't used a cassette in an even longer time...still don't know what to do with the 100 or so cassettes in a box:(
As far as connecting to an aux port, I don't know about the bose system but my standard system (6CD Changer) does not appear to have that ability..I too was looking to connect my portable MP3 player to it. I had a audio shop look for it. I'm told my only alternative is to use an FM transmitter and I'm looking around for one. (If anyone knows of a good unit to connect to a IRIVER let me know.)
The coolest one I have seen is the griffen ITunes for an IPOD but I don't know what the quality of the sound will be and of course I don't have an IPOD...yet It doesn't look good for the navigation system either as far as an auxillary input is concerned. I really would have appreciated the possibility of hooking up my mp3 player but will probably also settle for the FM transmitter... no other choice really. The fm modular is terrible due to our not good gm fm radio:banghead: Since there is no input option for this car, fm modulation is the only solution (currently). the typical issue for fm modulators are that they usually suck. station interference ususally hits you in various places and degrades your precious music. based on what i could find, this one is very good, since it blocks the antenna while in aux mode: http://www.installer.com/aux/index.html i may be getting this since i want to use it for my ipod and my sirius units. Anyone use this one? bk
FM Modulator
WORKS WITH ANY CAR RADIO
there are alot of FM modulators on the market that really suck! This one is very very good.. Perfect for MP3s
If you don't see your car listed on any of the AUX INPUT adapters above then this will be your only option. This modulator is a direct connect and actually switches your car antenna out of the circuit when you turn it on to help eliminate any unwanted FM interference...

$59.95 The XM Commander comes with a similar gadget that also plugs into your antenna input to block the FM signals when using the Modulator. good to know. I was looking for something that can do both ipod and "xm", which was why i was looking for a generic box...
thanks for your comment
bk Samboosa 06-08-04, 04:21 AM Well there is always the option of using a relay. Some headunits have the relay built-in and therefore they would have aux-in in the back of the unit. I havent had the guts to open the dashboard to check the bose unit yet.
But if you're really into it then it is possible to hook the headunit and the external player (u would probably need a GM) to a relay then every time u start one unit (headunit or external unit) the relay will switch off the other one.
Now what I don't know here is how is the bose headunit integrated with the car's console? I mean, do you need the player ON in order to view all the details and alarms related to the car or not? if they're separate then its doable. otherwise forget it.
Can anyone confirm if the bose headunit has any aux-in in the back of it? I don't believe that the head unit is actually "bose". based on my audi experience, bose is just the speakers and the proprietary amplifiers, crossovers etc) the head unit is the same in all audi cars regardless of bose or not. they just put the logos on the speakers and BOSE shows up on the readout. so now the question is really, does the factory head unit have an aux in on the back? (another note is the audi did have the option and folks did add aux in to bypass the bose amps while replacing speakers...
this is one of those new car things. a group needs to show interest to get someone like blitzsafe to invest in building an aux in for this car.
This head unit is such a part of the car that Blitzsafe discontinued a converter they built that allowed you to put an aftermarket head unit in because they were unsure of how the emergency systems would operate should the headunit be removed. (www.blitzsafe.com (http://www.blitzsafe.com))
bk A relay wound indeed be the perfect solution. However, I haven't seen anything for the SRX yet - though some other GM models do have it as an option. When I have my XM Commander installed I'll make sure to ask the tech to take a peek and see what he finds. Samboosa 06-09-04, 05:19 AM i believe there r 2 types of audio systems for the srx apart from the navigation one. the normal system and bose premium one.
i dont know where the audio compensation (audio pilot) takes place but it only exists in the bose system. WWEvoKaneSRX2134 06-10-04, 01:06 PM I don't if anyone said this but I've hooked my ipod up to a tv using the audio/video cord for a digital camera the same thing might work if you have the rear seat dvd rvonder 06-11-04, 11:08 AM I had similar thoughts. The rear-seat system offers RCA inputs (audio & video) for an aux source (for a camcorder, etc.?), so there's no reason you couldn't just connect an XM receiver or portable MP3 player to those jacks. The front head unit allows you to select the audio/video from the rear-seat system - although the video is muted when the car is placed in gear, the audio continues to work just fine.
I'd love to add XM to mine, but this approach just seems like such a kludge for anything other than a temporary setup that I've not done anything yet.
Rob great idea using the dvd input. i was just going to try that as an alternative. thanks for verifying that it works. it is a kluge, but it is better than my fm transmitter (wireless belkin) that i use for travel. good enough until i either get the on the wire fm modulater (posted above) or someone makes an aux in for this system.

:yeah:
The headunit in the non-bose (except for the 1SA) is the same for the bose package. The Bose system only refers to the amp and speakers.
And it does not have an Aux in. Samboosa 06-16-04, 07:09 AM :yeah:

so the auto pilot (noise comp.) feature is not part of the headunit? miscreant 06-16-04, 06:06 PM so the auto pilot (noise comp.) feature is not part of the headunit?
No. The microphone input goes into the bose amp. The amp also processes the Digital Signal processing, not the headunit. In fact, the amp controls the volume and the fading, too... aha! thanks :). now i am more interested in opening the dashboard to see if there is a solution for the aux-in problem. |
