This will be the first ever NATIONAL meet for cadillacforums.com. We have changed this from a Midwest meet to a full national meet mainly because we have members coming from all over the place, even Tennessee and Oregon! This WILL be the biggest and most exciting meet ever seen on these forums! The meet is going to be May 18th 2007 to May 20th, 2007. Everything is set in stone. This is THE PLAN for the weekend.

Friday, May 18th-
Meet at Econolodge hotel parking lot at 5:45 PM
Depart hotel at 6:30 PM for group cruise throughout Des Moines
Go to group dinner (to be determined) at 8:00 PM
Leave dinner at about 10 PM to hit a club/bar
Hit an after hours club/bar

Saturday, May 19th-
Meet at rendezvous point for motorcade at 1:30PM
Leave at 2:00 PM to head to Porky’s for actual meet
Group lunch at Porky’s at 3:00 PM
After lunch we will hang out at Porky’s until 7:30 or 8:00
Group dinner at Latin King at 8:30 PM
After dinner we will hit some bars or clubs

Sunday, May 20th-
Golf outing at the Tournament Club of Iowa at 2:30 PM
Leave as attendees see fit

That is the itinerary and it is set in stone. All reservations have been made and everything is a go FOR SURE. You are not required to attend any of these events. All events are optional. I have left free time for meals as people see fit. If you are not interested in certain parts of the meet, there are PLENTY of other things to do in Des Moines. I will also post links to other attractions for people who bring their family.

Now for the details:

We will be meeting in the Econolodge parking lot at 5:45 PM. People that want to come earlier are encouraged! I have taken the day off work and can meet up with people anytime. Just let me know! I will distribute maps of our route. We will have various stopping points along the way so that we can regroup.

The hotel in Des Moines will be the Econolodge on Merle Hay Road. We have a block of rooms reserved for the ENTIRE weekend. The rate is going to be $45 for a single bed and $50 for a double. Their phone number is 515-278-8858. Be sure to tell them you are with the Cadillac Owners Meet to get the group rate. Again, you will need to book with them by April 17th, 2007. This hotel will also allow domesticated pets for a $10 fee. The address for the hotel is 4755 Merle Hay Road, Urbandale, IA 50322. There are a lot of nicer hotels in Des Moines. There is a Four Points Sheraton directly across the street but we only have a group rate at the Econolodge. Downtown offers several luxury hotels. This hotel is only a few miles from the actual meet location and is within walking distance of several bars.

The rendezvous point for the motorcade is a large abandoned parking lot near my house. We will take a short drive down a couple of main thoroughfares on our way to Porky’s

Porky’s diner has been a Des Moines hotspot for 20+ years. It is on a very busy street and is VERY well known for their car events and AWESOME food. During the summer months, Porky’s hosts “Cruise Night” which attracts hundreds of local automobile enthusiasts. Cruise Night is held on Saturdays and is usually so packed that police are required to direct traffic. Cruise night usually starts around 5:00 or 6:00 PM which should give the public masses the chance to see our Cadillacs! Porky’s is very well known for their tenderloins. They also serve beer. The address for Porky’s is 4444 Douglas Ave, Des Moines, IA 50310. Also, please check out their website, www.prokysdiner.com (http://www.prokysdiner.com/) .

The Latin King is known throughout Iowa as having some of the best Italian food around. Here you will find many signature dishes unlike anything you have ever tasted. The Latin King is an upscale restaurant. You should plan on spending $20 to $30 for your dinner. The address is 2200 Hubbell Ave, Des Moines, IA. Also, please check out their website, www.tursislatinking.com (http://www.tursislatinking.com/) .

If you are into partying (much like me!!), you will not be disappointed with the Des Moines nightlife. After dinner we have virtually unlimited options of what to do. We can go to some small bars to converse or hit a full blown club. There are also several microbrewery taverns in the area. The sky is the limit! For the hardcore partiers like me, there are several after hours clubs and “alternative” clubs for after 2 AM. Partying options will be decided on that weekend based on what people are in the mood for. Be sure to check out http://www.iowanightlife.com/ (http://www.iowanightlife.com/) to see the Des Moines party scene!

The Tournament Club of Iowa is a premier public course! The course was designed by Arnold Palmer and hosts pro events every year. The cost for 9 holes with a cart will be $30. To be a part of this part of the meet you need to be confirmed by April 17th, 2007. To see the course, please visit http://www.tcofiowa.com/ (http://www.tcofiowa.com/) .

At the bottom of this post will be several relevant maps. Feel free to print them!

Anyone is welcome to join us for this meet, regardless of car make. For the motorcade and meet, only Cadillacs will be included.

Basically, you will need to be signed up for everything you want to be involved in by April 17th, 2007.

Please do not post questions or concerns on this thread. This thread is only to confirm your attendance. Please do not post your confirmation until you have booked your hotel room(s). When you post your confirmation be sure to include which events you will be attending. This will help us to have accurate numbers for everything. Also, please post when and where you will be arriving. If you are attending race night be sure to e-mail me FIRST.

Please post your questions and concerns in the old Midwest meet thread. I will continue to monitor the old thread.

We are currently working on a website to further spread information for this meet. The website is www.cadillacmeet.com (http://www.cadillacmeet.com/) .

I will distribute maps throughout the weekend. Please let me know if you need help or directions!

I'll be there Saturday, I don't think I can get there in time for Friday night, and I'll head back Sunday morning as I don't golf.

As far as additional people, my Dad wants to come, and he might bring my Mother - but I'm not sure on that.

Haven't been on here in a while due to moving to the Chicago area for a new job, but Nick and I have been staying in touch. I will be there from Friday through Sunday. I will be a spectator at the racing event, do all the Saturday events, and leave after breakfast since I don't golf.

I will be selling my '91 Brougham there at the event.

I was waiting for a piece of financial news before confirming, but now that I have it, I know that I'm coming.

Hoover and I will arrive in Des Moines on Saturday, and I'm planning to do everything (I even dug my golf clubs out of the attic and will have to hit the driving range). My Dad may be making the trip with me, but I don't know yet for sure.

Wonderful! Bringing Cruella I presume? That's the plan. Cruella's running good; I'm having the serpentine belt replaced and will probably do the hoses as well before the trip.

I'm getting Betty's A/C fixed later this month, but I'm planning to drive her back to Arizona in November for a meet that the local Impala club I helped start is hosting.

Well, it's raining—again! So I won't be taking the clay bar to Cruella today, but I may do the Dove treatment to the interior. Took my steam vac to the carpets last week, so I'm detailing her gradually for the trip.

I was bored, so I decided to see who all is coming to the meet. Right now, I count only 9 confirmed CF members, plus another five friends that Nick mentioned. But there are 21 CF members who said they were interested in coming; they just haven't confirmed.

I tried a couple of different ways to import my table into the post, but it wouldn't cooperate, and I can't attach the original spreadsheet, so I printed it as a .pdf and converted it to a .jpeg file.

Nick, John, maybe you should PM some of the guys who said they were interested but who have not confirmed. Maybe PM some of the other members in the Midwest (I'm can think of several from Ohio—Robert CTS, Illumina, Pimpin88, Florian) and bump up the attendance.

Since the track time was unfortunately cancelled, I have a suggestion. Why don't we set up a little autocross course at the former Target parking lot where we're meeting up? We could do this on Sunday morning after breakfast and before golf. Might be fun to see what some of those big Fleetwoods can do, especially if Elias brings his with the Impala SS suspension mods. Nick, since you work for the state, maybe you could get some orange cones from the transportation department?

I've gone to events like this when the C5 Corvette was launched and also at a GM truck event. Had a blast whipping an Escalade around the cones (my friend who drove a Mazda pickup had his hands full; he couldn't believe how I was whipping that thing around, but I'm used to big cars).

Just an idea to think about.

My Dad just called, and he has some possible substitute driver's for his route, so it looks like he may be coming. I'll know for sure in the next week or so.

John, did you ever hear from the local Cadillac/LaSalle Club about joining us for the show on Saturday; I'd love to see some vintage Cadillacs there.

And if anybody's interested, here's my itinerary for the trip to and from Des Moines. I'm going to try driving back in three days to conserve my vacation days, and if my Dad helps with some of the driving, that will make it easier. On the way back, I'm stopping at the Cussler Museum (http://www.cusslermuseum.com/) outside Denver. Looks like there are some really cool cars there.

There's a small hiccup on the hotel. What was a Super 8 will be an EconoLodge as of next week. Phone number is still (515) 278-8858. Address is 4755 Merle Hay Rd. Do not confuse it with the Super 8 across the street at Merle Hay Rd. and Sutton (formerly a Comfort Inn).

Also, when I called to make a reservation, they couldn't find the reservation code CGCICS or any record of the Cadillac Owner's club. So I'm going to call again in the morning and speak to Ashley. She works 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is the person who handles groups.

gdwriter
04-22-07, 12:06 PM
OK, problem solved with the hotel. Ashley was off today, but I spoke to Cathy (I think that's her name), and she found our group with the reservation code CGCICS. She said it would be best to call before 3 p.m. to make your reservations; either she or Ashley will be there, and they at least know what's going on.

i asked for the group rate but she told me the block of reserved rooms was already full and gave me a rate of like $69. When I go there I'll just tell them I'm with the caddi group and see what happens. I read some online reviews for this hotel and everyones says it's a POS dump and every time I call them they seem kind of clueless, but maybe it will be a little better if some other chain took it over.

I figure I'll be drunk all weekend anyways and just need a place to crash.

Count me in for two people, plus Hoover. My Dad got his substitute driver, so he's making the trip with me.

I dug my golf clubs out of the attic a couple of weeks ago and finally made it out to the driving range last night. I’m thinking it’s been at least six years, maybe longer since I swung my clubs.

I expected to be even more awful than I was before, but I was surprised. Even though I had my share of crappy swings and balls that went nowhere, I had more good strokes than I expected. My back did start hurting after about 3/4 of the bucket was gone, but again, not bad considering how long it’s been. I’m going to try going again next week and possibly playing a par 3 course before the trip.

Nick, how many people are confirmed for golf? I talked to my sister who currently lives in Omaha about coming over to play, but she doesn't know yet if she can come. She's an excellent golfer and will help make up for my major suckage.

Well, I'm ready for golf on Sunday.

I went into The Sports Authority Wednesday to get a new glove and decided to look at clubs since the ones I have feel too short (I'm 6' 0"). I'm not a good enough golfer for expensive clubs to make much difference. Unfortunately, when I see clubs on sale, most often, they'll say "Men's right-hand only." It can be hard to find left-handed clubs.

So I'm looking at the displays, and there are several sets in the $125-$150 range, and I'm checking the display cards to see if any are available left-handed. I take down an iron from one of the displays to see how the length feels, and it dawns on me that it's a left-handed club. Bingo!

I ended up buying the display set: Dunlop Rebels with a graphite shafts for $149, marked down $100. Since my old bag was pretty ratty, I bought a new standing bag, also on sale, for $59. Oh, and I did get the new glove I had come in for in the first place.

http://www.gdwriter.q45.org/clubs_1.jpg

http://www.gdwriter.q45.org/clubs_2.jpg

It rained Thursday, so my plans to play at the local par-3 course fell through, but I'm going to go out there after work on Monday. I did get to the driving range last night, though. It was very windy, which probably didn't help my accuracy, but I had enough good drives to believe I won't be embarrassed in Des Moines. I'm still topping some balls, especially with my shorter irons, so my game definitely needs lots of work.

Of course, I didn't need new clubs for the meet, but I had already decided I wanted to start playing golf again. With my little sister, who's a championship amateur golfer, moving to Oregon for the next three years during her husband's next assignment, I'll have more opportunities to play and improve my game. So it was a good time to get new clubs. FORE!

Hey Nick, don't forget bout me, i've been confirmed since the getgo, got room booked at econolodge (was super 8?) for fri & sat. of course now my buddy might be backing out, but i'm coming either way, will let you know for sure by this fri. whether I have 1 or 2 for meals & golf.

For golf, are you talking about everyone playing at the tournament players club of iowa in polk city? http://www.tcofiowa.com/
That will rock, i have a friend who says it's a must play if yer in the area, says it's one of the harder courses he's played (he plays all over the country).

I finally played my 1st round this year at a very difficult course in Madison, WI, University Ridge. http://www.universityridge.com/page/204-6709.htm
Overall I was pretty happy, shot a 94 (yes that's for 18). Actually ended up playing 27 holes. between that & putting on my new d&s rotors/painted calipers this weekend I'm so sore I can hardly move.

Jesda

My "60% likely to go" is now a "80% likely". I'll probably book my (and Chad's) hotel room on Monday through Priceline.

When I went to the Tampa meet, I scored a REALLY nice Doubletree luxury suite for $50/night. I suspect I can do even better in a midsize town like Des Moines.

Hey Jesda, when do you plan on leaving the STL and on what day

One week!!! Man I need to clean this car upI prepped Cruella a little at a time since we've had a very wet spring in Oregon. Took my steam vac to the carpets one weekend (did the carpets and upholstery in Betty, too), did the Dove/Pledge treatment to the interior the next, then finally washed her, did the clay bar and wax two weekends ago. It was stormy again last week, so even though Cruella didn't get all that dirty, I washed her again Saturday after I washed Betty. So she's ready for the trip. Depending on the weather driving cross-country I may or may not have to wash her again once I get to my sister's in Omaha. At the very least, I'll need to clean all the bugs off the front.

As for golf, any course is a challenge for me. I'm a total hacker. I played a very short par-3 course after work on Monday (several holes were under 100 yards) and shot a 43 for nine holes, which isn't bad for me, especially considering I haven't played in six years. The new clubs feel good, and I had enough decent drives and chip shots that I won't be embarrassed in Des Moines. I even sank a 20-25 putt, which totally made my day. If there's time, I'll hit the driving range after work tomorrow and may either go to the driving range or play a quick 9 holes with my sister when I get to Omaha next Friday.

Even though turnout appears lower than originally expected, I'm still looking forward to the road trip and the meet. I'll be taking pictures and posting them here along the way.

Fantastic! Wait till after the meet and we will post all of our pics in one thread over in the lounge! Im hitting Waveland again this weekend. If I dont get it down to 50 or better Im gonna look like a total ******* at TCI!! LOL!!!

Say, whatever happened to Benzilla?

Hey Jesda, when do you plan on leaving the STL and on what day

Good question. We should caravan.

Hell, I don't even own a Cadillac. What if we just took your car and split the gas? If I bring my brother, that could be a 3-way savings.

Allright boys. Just finalized the cruise route and stopping points. Going to be a pretty awesome cruise. Going to have 5 stopping points and will go through downtown and the Saylorville lake area. Going to be everything from downtown cruisin to gorgeous views from outside the city. I also decided on the restaurant for Friday night. Going to go with spaghetti works in downtown. Fantastic food. Their speciality is all you can eat spaghetti. They have other sutff also though. Great family restaraunt. That also puts us on the main strip for the AWESOME downtown bars. From dinner we can decide what bars to hit. We can stay in the downtown area or go to other bars. Im pretty excited!!!!

The cruise will be perfectly coordinated with maps being distributed before we start.

I have also decided on brunch for sunday. We will go to the north end diner for their buffet. Great food!! Brunch will just be whoever decides to get up and go. probably hit it around noon, after check out time. Its right down the street from the hotel.

Heres the link for Spaghetti Works:

$75/night

Not as good a deal as when I went to the Tampa meet, which was $50 for a suite, but considering the time of year I think I saved about 50%. Took me about an hour of bidding on Priceline.

Yes, I did reserve a room at the Super8/Econolodge for Saturday night. Too bad I can't go out partying with you guys, but I have another meet Sunday in Chicago. Just want to do a little shopping, show, sleep, and go.

I'd love to put the CTS kids in their place, but that could be a problem. I hotrodded my 95 Eldo and got all of 184000 miles out of it before the motor gave up, this one I'm setting up as a cruiser (although it is tempting.)

A great time was had by all this weekend! Excellent food! Really enjoyed meeting everyone, too! Many thanks to NickC50310 for taking over the planning after my new job in Chicagoland took me out of the action for a while.
Nick--really nice job, man! Nice to meet you and your brother for lunch Thursday, too.

Chad, gdwriter: enjoyed looking through your brochures. gdwriter: Hoover was a great addition to our meet. Thanks for driving out!

Jesda:Nice exhaust, and I enjoyed the Q's workout at the Target parking lot. Appreciated your humor and your bumper sticker! :)

kael: You are too funny, man... You should do stand-up comedy. Maybe we can hook up in Chicagoland for a genuine Chicago-style pizza. Glad you enjoyed your meal at Latin King. I can appreciate going to a new area and trying what is your hometown's famous specialty (Italian in this case)

90Brougham350: Enjoyed chatting with you! Congrats on your college graduation, good luck with your engagement, and best wishes on your career.

I came back to the hotel room and left a terrible mess in the sink, toilet, shower... pretty much vomit everywhere. Worse, the sink was clogged and overflowing, forcing me to scoop out last night's veal and zucchini with my fingers. I was finally able to unclog the sink with soap and shampoo, then washed and scrubbed my hands for a good ten to fifteen minutes. Good thing this room has two bathrooms.
I'm leaving an apology note and a generous tip for the cleaning staff.

This is the 1,000th time I'll say this:
I'M NEVER DRINKING AGAIN.

Until next time. :D

What a blast this has been! It's been so great meeting everyone! Finally able to put a face to the username! Last night for me was interesting also, but not as "interesting" as Jesda's. After we got back from "the king", Tanner, Jesda and I had some Bacardi Limon that Tanner brought, then Tanner bonged some Corona, then as you know, we went to the bars and Jesda and I (mainly Jesda ;) ) shared a pitcher of Blue Moon. I was pretty tipsy, but hardly "drunk". I had lots of water to drink afterwords then when I woke up I was feeling about 80%.

What a blast! I took around 105 pictures so far, and I'll upload 'em when I get home today.

As others have said, this weekend was a total blast. Well worth the drive for me. It was great meeting everybody and hanging out with people who are into cars as much as I am. And I'm still full from today's brunch. We Cadillac owners sure know how to eat (and drink).

It was so funny last night when we were sitting outside at this bar downtown. A last-generation Buick Riviera drove by. I spotted it, then looked over at Chad and he nodded. We both have this radar for cars. Among my close friends, only one is a real car guy, so I really enjoyed spending time with people who get it.

Golf today was great, too. Considering this was the first time I've played a real course in six years, I was not embarrassed. I did have the highest score at 62 for nine hole, but that was only 3 more than Nick, and I finished strong. All of us—Nick, Tony, Kurt and Brett—had our share of good and, um, not-so-good shots. But there was one hole where we all did well. And I think everybody had a good time.

I have 281 pictures from the trip over and the meet so far. I'll add some to the "best of" thread once I get home. And I'll put all of them online somewhere sometime this weekend.

Thanks to everybody who made the trip. Thanks also for all the compliments for Cruella and Hoover. I think he had a good time, too. So has my Dad, and I'm glad he came along.

We got back to my sister's in Omaha a little after 7:30.

HAHAHAHA, what a great weekend guys! Thanks for coming out!! It was great meeting all of you and all of you have gorgeous Caddies!!! Im glad you guys had fun.

I think we had 16 cars at the actual meet which was FANTASTIC!!

Golf was pretty awesome today. I started off pretty bad but recovered nicely in the end. I shot like a beast on the back nine. Had 2 pars both of which should have been birdies. I shot a 53 on the back nine which is not too bad for waveland. I have seen consistant scratch golfers hit in the upper 40s. Its a pretty tough course really.

One thing about Iowa is that we definately know how to eat and drink like some pros. :highfive:
