View Full Version : Auxilary Input For Stereo? Does anyone know how hard it would be to do auxilary in on the stereo? I have a MP3 phone, and I use it everywhere I go. In my vehicles right now, I have a cassette deck, so I can use the carkit things, but Cadillac removed the cassette for '04 :banghead: , so now my phone is useless in the car :( The Ford Falcon in Australia comes with auxilary in from factory, so I know it's possible. Thanks. ChiMick 03-22-04, 05:45 PM I am totally guessing here but I am thinking that your best bet would be to find an FM adaptor something like what is used with the Apple iPod, etc. 18 year old with a caddy???
Anyway, I was thinking about the aux input and I have a ghetto way to rig one up. I haven't tried it but it should work. The head unit only outputs 2 channels to the amp where it is seperated. My thought was to splice in some RCA's into these outputs at the back of the radio and just burn a silent CD and have it loop. I can then hook up my MP3 player to the RCA's that I rigged up. If anyone wants to try this, let me know how it turns out. If it totally blows up your car, it's not my fault. If it works flawlessly, the idea was 100% mine. :p CTSV OWNER 03-22-04, 10:20 PM You can use a FM transmitter plugged into the jack that you plug your casette plugs into and broadcast on 88.1 88.3 88.5 or 88.7 FM turn your car radio on and set the station to match. That is how I have my CD Walkman in my old truck and still play CD's on just a AM/FM radio without even haveing a cassette deck.
They can be purchased at any electronics store. I have one of those and the sound quality is definately sub par. I used for the first few weeks of owning it and it's been sitting in one of the cup holders ever since. :hmm: I've asked this question before, does the CTS Bose radio have RCA input/output jacks on the back side?:bonkers:

$20 Canadian, FM transmitter.. Free shipping... I'm gonna pick one up 2morrow. CTSV OWNER 03-22-04, 10:48 PM Agreed on the sub par.
I have had the navigation/stereo out of my CTSV and it has no RCA jacks in the back. There is the tiny XM antenna, the regular antenna, and a cluster of 4 small plug in connectors. My wife put a home burned CD in that had one of those stick on labels and it jammed the whole cd player part up. Atleast the DVD/Nav is on the top so we could still use that.
You remove it by pulling the houseing for the top vents out just swing it on top of the dash and rest it on top of the dash with wire attached. Take out the ash tray and remove the 7mm headed screw carefull not to drop it. Place the shifter in a farther back postion. Pull the lower panel back and set it aside. Remove the four 10mm headed screws that hold the unit to the instrament panel.
By the way if you drive with the unit removed the traction controll does not work. I tossed the car sideways when I caught a bit of gravel under hard accell.
I was going to send the unit out for repairs because it will not play CD's at the moment, Caddy offered me a brand new exchange unit but I declined due to my anal wanting to keep everything original. I will have to wait until someone can repair these units and just suffer with the XM AM/FM if you can call that suffering. Agreed on the sub par.

How bad is it? Compared to a car kit using the cassette deck? CTSV OWNER 03-22-04, 11:06 PM It has two power supply modes. One is thru the accessory outlet which was better and the other was thru 2 double A batterys. The battery power made a constant high pitched squeal. The other was ok. But I did cheap out when I bought mine and opted for the lower cost unit. I don't know how much better a more expensive unit would have been. I did not use it in my cassette deck as the cassette deck does not work in my truck. Thanks, I'll give it a go 2morrow, if it sucks, I'll return it. |
