I found this car on a local craigslist add. I've always liked this body style. However, are these cars any good. How quick are they. Its a carbuerated 5.0 305 and I've heard those are weak engines. I found online that it runs like a high 15 for the quarter mile. Is this car worth looking into or should I forget about it? How much money would it cost to make it run 13 or 14's?

I like this model of M.C. too, the 305 ,while not a power house is a very good reliable engine.depends what kind of performance you want, this engine is used in a lot of later 80's caddy broughams and manages to move them around. check out "carsurvey.com".

I reread the ad,it says it has the bench seat, the center consule wih gear selector ,and bucket seats I think is a lot nicer,I would question if this is a true S.S.. if this is not an s.s. I think it's priced too high.

TOO MUCH!! It would cost about that much to get it to run 13's as well.

I have ridden in this car. It is awesome! He started out with an LS1 then upgraded as the years went by.

The Monte Carlo SS is a very nice car; I had one about 10 years ago but sold it to buy my first of 6 B / D body GM cars. B-body= Impala SS / Caprice / Roadmaster / Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser Ö D-body= Cadillac Fleetwood .. The bench seat was an option on an SS and is more desirable for a collector but for a daily driver most people like the buckets .. a 150 shot of nitrous and some good drag tires would easily put that car in the 13ís for less then $1000.00 . I would love to buy one again one day .. I still have itís brother .. very rare Pontiac 2+2 Aero Coupe / Grand Prix

.. I had them both for a wile before I bought the first Impala SS.. Kinda got hooked on the Impala SS after that ;)

my buddy bought a silver 86 SS that had an LS6 motor wedged in it.....
would smoke the tires at 45 miles an hour......couldn't plate it though and eventually sold it.

The '88 SS isn't all that bad for what it is. Me and my brother just got his rolling again with a 350 C.I.D. SBC in her. His is an '86.

The M/C SS's are nice, but I like the 442's more.
