CadillacSTS2003 02-28-07, 06:11 PM bose with bose only for eldos and for eldos they never made a non bose cd player if you had bose then you could do the swap GizmoQ 03-15-07, 11:49 AM bose with bose only for eldos and for eldos they never made a non bose cd player if you had bose then you could do the swap I've searched for hours trying to figure this out. And now I've seen two posts that are contradictory, so not only ae my eyes tired, but now I'm confused. One post here said the 97 and newer radios had theftlock and since the 96 doesn't you can't swap the radios. But this post says you can. I have a Bose cassette with 12 disk CD changer in the trunk. I want a OEM radio in my 96 Eldo that has RDS, AM stereo and an in-dash CD slot, but from previous posts, I'm somewhat discouraged. This post renews my hope. Can I achieve what I want? If so, Anyone know what part number will work? If I have to rewire connectors, I don't mind,if it will achieve my goal. Hell, I've even gotten to the point wher I've started researching radio repair techs to see who's best experienced to open the radio and reconfigure it to meet my needs. Any help, clarification, guidance, schematics, procedures, etc., would be greatly appreciated. Ultimately, I'm going to open the box anyway and gut the in-dash CD portion and replace that section with a DVD-RW drive controlled by my CarPC, but I want to keep the OEM look of the center console as well as increased functionality of the radio when the computer is not in use. CadillacSTS2003 03-15-07, 10:00 PM i have done this you can do it so long as you have bose when you plug it in it will say theftlock take it to the dealer have them plug the tech 2 in and go under 1998 for the model year, then theftlock will be listed and you can clear the stored vin and enter you vin. once thats done the radio works 100% GizmoQ 04-05-07, 11:18 AM O.K. here's the latest update. Bought a radio out of a 2000 Deville (supposedly compatible with Eldorados), took it to my "friendly" neighborhood dealer and asked him to reset the Theft-Lock. Initially, he said set an appointment and it would cost $51 and take ~45 minutes. Then he realized the different year cars and I told him I had receipts for the radio as well as all the information (VIN, etc) of the original car, so let's try it anyway. He said: THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY TO USE THAT RADIO IN A 96 ELDO. His explanation was that the 96 does not have Class2 Serial Bus, whereby, they can't even communicate with the radio in my car. At $105/hr their radio tech said he'd try it, but the service manager said NO. Can anyone verify this information. I'm not ready to give up. I plugged the new radio into my car (connectors are identical) and I know its properly powered because it will load/eject a CD in the slot-load. I'm willing to try it anyway, but my dealership is going to take some convincing. HELP!!!!!!!
