NEGATIVE !! Running Quad core does not give you the ability to look into the future.
;) JimHare 02-26-07, 08:53 PM I'm not a huge war flick fan, but here's some of my picks
1) Guns of Navarone - classic Peck/Niven and the gang
2) Platoon - as mentioned, Sheen, Dafoe and Berenger excel.
3) The Beast - Russian Tank, Afghanistan, mujahadeen, what more do you need
4) Glory
5) Battle of the Bulge - all star cast, as usual
6) The Longest Day - see above
The last two suffer from the usual mid-60s School of Wooden Acting by Enlisting Stars like Fabian and other "pop favorites", but Fonda, Savalas, and the rest usually rise above. 3) The Beast - Russian Tank, Afghanistan, mujahadeen, what more do you need
Yes !! :D (forgot about The Beast) I~LUV~Caddys8792 02-27-07, 12:26 AM Just watched Platoon, good movie, but depressing. Berenger's character was one of film's biggest *******s IMO, was so glad to see Sheen's character give him what he deserves. Patrick7997 02-27-07, 10:23 AM Hard to get it down to Five, but...
1. Midway
2. Tora Tora Tora
3. Black Hawk Down
4. Das Boot
5. Kelly's Heroes
Honorable Mention must go to:
1. Platoon
2. Dr. Strangelove
3. The Bridges at Toko-Ri
4. (if this even counts) A Few Good Men JimHare 02-27-07, 02:03 PM Yes !! :D (forgot about The Beast)
"Tank kaboom?"....
"Tank?...russian tank?..."
(Takes broken RPG launcher from mujah, uses old Enfield '03 piece to fix firing pin...)
"Kaboom. .... Tank kaboom now..."
George Dzundza is great in his role as the T/C you love to hate.. Stoneage_Caddy 02-27-07, 02:27 PM damn, i still havent seen tora tora tora I love all these movies you guys have posted. I'll add more WWII-era movies:

We Were Soldiers damn, i still havent seen tora tora tora
What!...Well now you just gotta rent it!
On a side note, just finished watching one of my all time favorite films. Kind of a war movie. Kind of a horror movie. I guess you could say it's one of the few that makes a close connection between both genre's of film. The movie I speak of......is Jacob's Ladder. Crazy film. Lot's of creepy, disturbing stuff that any good horror film should have, and all based around weird chemical tests on soldiers in Vietnam. Very strange film, Tim Robbins is excellence in this film.
Not sure if any of you are familiar with it, but it's a good flick, if your looking for something that's not just about a war, and not just a creepy horror film per say. Hmm..one might even classify it as a drama as well. Anyway... Patrick7997 02-28-07, 12:53 AM Jacob's Ladder was interesting.... I found it vaguely disturbing at times, but overall, it was good...
If you like that sort of thing, there's a movie called "Final Approach" that is somewhat similar. Hector Elizondo is brilliant in that one...
Final Approach isn't really a war movie per se, but the main character is a bomber pilot on a mission that goes wrong.... I~LUV~Caddys8792 02-28-07, 12:59 AM I just rented and watched "The Deer Hunter"....wow, what a movie! That's my favorite "war" movie, even though the Vietnam war part only takes up like 1/3rd of the movie. Definetly one of my favorite films though! I knew it was gonna be a good movie when I saw that scene with the 4 guys in that '59, and DeNiro gets 'er to do that 180! Brilliant! nyyankeehater 02-28-07, 08:32 PM Classics
