Angry New Escalade Already messed up!

Well, got my new '07 Escalade late last week. Thought I'd go over and show it to my buddy who has not gotten out of the house since falling off a 3 story building.

Long story short, he stepped in ALOT of mud as we were leaving the bar, and I said "Don't get in here with that mud on your feet!"

Not thinking anything, I proceeded to turn on the truck and fiddle with the radio.... till I hear this "SHRIIIIICK! SCHRIIIIK!"

I look over and he is SCRAPING the mud and rocks off his shoes onto the chrome trimmed running boards!!!!!!

Needless to say, I screamed at him and asked him WTF he was thinking.

He said "What was I supposed to do?"

Next day I went to the car wash, washed off all the mud inside and out, and just as I had feared... about 2 feet of scratches all over the chrome.

Now heres this kid with 2 broken arms, 2 broken ankles, detached retina, and has gone through 8 surgeries and lost his job, had been bed ridden for 3 months.... what the hell am I supposed to do? I didnt have the heart to tell him to pay for the damages. So I guess I am screwed.

    Sucks.

    BTW... LOVE my new Escalade.

You might find a detail place and see if they can polish it out somehow.
    Tough break.
I hate to be in that position.
Sounds like maybe a guy who's made some bad life choices.
I try to avoid guys with luck like that, at least avoid calling them "friends".

Congratulations on the new Escalade. I'm glad you enjoy it. I have to say that this does happen to the best of us. All we can do is live with it. I am just as paranoid as you are about my 2005 Escalade and I don't even let some of my friends in the car because I worry what might happen. I'm sure you can get it fixed and I don't think it will be a huge problem. At least he didn't get mud in the car. Enjoy your 2007.

    Thanks.

Re: New Escalade Already messed up!

You could always take some steel wool to the whole board and do it on both side so the scratches match!
That might be easier. (not to make light of your situation)

maybe a dremel tool with the polishing cloths and jewelers rouge(sp?) might help take them out.

I think you will be better off ordering new chrome and replace it. Chrome plastic cant be "buffed out"

Check GM Parts Direct! If anyone is going to have the piece, they will. Getting a brand new chrome strip will probably be the best idea if you want it to look new again. Hopefully you won't have to buy a full replacement and the chrome can just be replaced. Good luck.

    Thanks.

Some friends... You can dress them up but you can't take them out! Some chrome polish should help hide the scratches but you will always know it's there. Make sure your buddy knows too. Sorry dude! EP

Thats the one thing I don't like on the new Esc. is the crome on the running boards. WFT! There gonna get scratched there running boards! Come a year from now the driver side will have just as many or more scratches.

I really wouldn't be mad at your friend.
