    Overfilled 2007 escalade engine oil

I have a 2007 escalade esv, 160k miles. I take a lot of care of my escalade, its in perf condition thank god! So I was going on a road trip, about 800 miles roundtrip. I checked my oil level, it showed that it was at the 4th hole, so about a quart low. I added some lucas synthetic an entire quart. Drove it was normal engine driving, I was driving back late at night, and felt some slagging on the engine, as if the engine was using too much power. So i checked the oil level, and it showed it was overfilled. I couldnt drain it until i came home. So now my question is, how badly have i messed my engine up, I am afraid I may have done a lot of harm to it. I have taken a lot of care of my escalade. I can see that the excess oil did leak from the top, as I could see it once I got underneath the car. It drives perfectly normal, no check engine light or anything. So is there anything wrong for driving those 800 miles? What should I look for and how may I tell. Truly appreciate all of your responses and help. thanks a lot

Too much oil causes aeration in the oil and reduces its ability to lubricate. How much overfiled was it? I would check it again with the engine cold and see if it is still overfilled. I usually check mine cold as there is typically only a 5% expansion rate when hot. With an expansion rate of 5% it really doen't matter if hot or cold but if it is hot you need to allow at least five minutes for the oil to drain back into the pan before checking.

There was max 1 quart extra of oil. I have drained a little over half a quart out. How much of a negative impact will 1 extra quart have for about 800 miles highway driving? thanks a lot

no I drove from florida to new York with minus 2 quarts, I had gotten a oil change in pompano on my way back home to NYC and I forgot my oil dip stick I got back to NYC when I opened the hood I saw oil all over the right side where the oil goes and saw oil all over so I had to put in 2 quarts plus a new dip stick

To answer your question yes you can drive with minus 1 quart

Re: Overfilled 2007 escalade engine oil

I'm pretty sure GM would not let over-filling the engine oil by only a quart damage the engine. I would take it to a GM dealer and get a proper oil change done. Don't trust the idiots at Jiffy Lube or a similar location with your oil.
