    Rough Ride 2009 Escalade

I've noticed that the ride in the Escalade is not very smooth and has progressively gotten worse. We've had the vehicle for 8 months, initially it didn't ride as smooth as our 2003 Escalade but I blamed it on the 22" wheels. Now i'm blaming it on the cold. I'm ready to swap to the 18" wheels and tires but still think it may be more to it than that.I think it should ride better with the 22" than it does. I've checked the tire pressure and they're ~35psi. Any comments about rides on 22"s vs 18's or anything else I need to check or consider before doing the swap. Thanks!

How many miles? Have you replaced the shocks/struts? I am guessing (09 with 22s) you have MRC. They will stiffen up as they fail. The ride on 22s is smooth as can be for me with 22s.

Thanks for the reply. 65,000 miles and to my knowledge the struts haven't been replaced. Is their anyway to tell if they are failing and not working. I do think I have the MRC.

With 65k miles the shocks could be shot, seen them go in less miles than that.

Update Finally able to get the car in to the dealer. $55 and 30 mins later they tell me the rear shocks need to be replaced. But they're not in stock and would have to order them. $1100 installed. Yikes! Then I find out they can't get the shocks because GM has discontinued those and are replacing them with a new part number and it could be a month before they get them.

Dealing with same issue on my EXT. Have major guard extended service plan and I'm being told it doesn't cover this problem when on the website it clearly states suspension is covered.

    Re: Rough Ride 2009 Escalade

I just installed the front 2 as well and its night and day difference. That being I bought the truck used and never knew how good it was supposed to ride. I had a hell of a time taking the driver side strut and spring apart but it was worth it.
Bad news is I found my Transfer case is leaking out of the output shaft seal.

    Re: Rough Ride 2009 Escalade

I just got a 2011 ESV Platinum in November. This is the 4th Escalade ESV that I have had since 2000. I like everything about the 2011 except the ride. It has the hardest ride of any vehicle I have ever owned including a Ford Excursion which was terrible as well. I am so disappointed in getting beat up on unsmooth roads that I am considering trading it for something different. I know the 22" wheels must be part of the problem but would the MRC not be functioning properly, the shocks bad or the brand of tires be the problem. It has 50000 miles on it. Anyone have any suggestions like going to 18" wheels.

If you think your '11 Platinum rides rough, then obviously, something is malfunctioning. My bet is on the shocks. Get them checked out.
