    Brake rotors and pads

I installed new slotted and drilled rotors along with ceramic pads back in sept 2013 and they squeak very loud when moving at low speeds and first thing in the morning. I am wondering if they are any solutions to this problem or just switch to standard rotors. The old standard rotors I had were worn but never squeak like these ones. The ones I used are max performance brakes.

    Re: Brake rotors and pads

It's all about the break in when it comes to squeals and other brake noises, also could be a problem with the install and the pads are making a vibration that can make a squealing sound on some ceramics. You may have a glaze on the pad causing this noise, if that is the case the pads should be removed and slightly sanded to remove the glaze.

Those max performance pads are crap. I had them too and they squealed like crazy. I changed to Hawk ceramic and they are fine now and stop way better. The rotors from Max are ok but the pads are no good.

If I just change the pads do I have to break them in. The rotors are slotted and drilled and have a film on them.

    Re: Brake rotors and pads

You always need to break in (bed) new pads.

    Re: Brake rotors and pads

As said above there should be instructions included with the pads on bedding, if not look at their web site, this is important and will usually prevent glazing which causes squeals and other unpleasant brake noises
