Side mirror motor needs replacement- cheapest way?

I will be selling my '07 to a family member when the news ones come out and I need to replace the motor in the driver side mirror. The dealership quoted me $800+. I'd rather not spend that on a vehicle worth $20,000ish.

What are my other options besides doing it myself?

Will a local mechanic do something like this cheaper? I've always used my dealer.

Check Ebay. You should be able to find the whole mirror assembly for a couple hundred bucks, in black also. You can also call around to your local junk yards.

I've seen several on eBay but if you read the entire post it will state the folding mirror doesn't work. It makes me wonder if they are replaced at a dealership for that reason and some of the tech's put them up on e-Bay.

Is that the motor the moves the mirror itself up,down, left, right? Or the motor that folds the entire housing in and out?

If it's just the motor for the mirror itself, you can get them on eBay for $40 or so and it takes about 3 minutes to replace.

What is the "it" you're referring to? The entire mirror housing or the mirrors motor?
