Transfer Case - BW 4485-NR3 or NVG 246-NP8?

    Hi,

i am planning to do a transfer case oil change on my 2007 Escalade.

According my 2007 Service Manual there are two different TC possible in that truck. Either a Borg Warner 4485-NR3 or the NVG 246-NP8. I searched the forum for recommended fluid and found many guys telling a DEXRON VI oil should be used.
My service Manual recommends the following:

For the BW 4485 - "Manual Transmission Fluid" GM P/N 88861800
For the NVG 246 - "Auto Trac II Fluid" GM P/N 12378508

    Two Questions:
    - On the RPO Sticker i found Code "NR3". Does that mean i have the BW 4485-NR3 in my Escalade?
    - What fluids would you guys recommend if the OEM Part number fluids are not accessible?

    Any addvice is higly appreciated!

    Best regards,

    Jochen

there are typically tags on TCs and differentials that will tell you exactly what it is. It might be covered with crud after 6 years of service but should be there. Some quick googling leads me to believe you'd have the BW unit but it wasn't an exact match. Might want to call a dealer or Caddy cust service and give them your vin to find out which fluid p/n is appropriate.

I had a look on the Transfercase. It is the Borg Warner. So, my Service Manual says i have to use "Manual Transmission Fluid" GM P/N 88861800. However, i do not get any oil with that classification here in germany. Any idea what i should use? Thanks!
