    Busted motor mount--'07 Escalade ESV

    All,

Has anyone replaced a drivers side motor mount? Were you able to do it without a lift?

Back story, I'm pretty sure it was broke before I ran out of powertrain warranty, but I couldn't get it into the shop and when I took the truck in last summer to get my brake booster replaced, they of course confirmed that the drivers side mount was broke. Dealer quoted around $800 due to the amount of work. I refuse to pay that amount on a part that never should have broke in the first place. For crying out loud my '68 GMC still has the original mounts and engine!!!

Anyway, can anyone offer any advice on what it takes to replace to one these mounts. Thanks in advance.

    Matt

    •Engine Mount Replacement - Left Side (1500 LC9/LMG/LY5/L76/L92)

    Engine Mount Replacement - Left Side (1500 w/RPOs LC9/LMG/LY5/L76/L92)

    Removal Procedure

Notice: When raising or supporting the engine for any reason, do not use a jack under the oil pan, any sheet metal, or the crankshaft pulley. Due to the small clearance between the oil pan and the oil pump screen, jacking against the oil pan may cause the pan to be bent against the pump screen. This will result in a damaged oil pickup unit.

1.Remove the air cleaner outlet duct.
2.If the vehicle is equipped with four wheel drive (4WD), remove the front drive axle. Refer to Differential Carrier Assembly Replacement.
    3.Lower the vehicle.
    4.Remove the generator bracket.
5.Remove the engine mount to frame bolts (1).
6.Raise and support the vehicle halfway. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
    7.Remove the left wheelhouse liner.

Important: DO NOT raise and/or support the engine by the crankshaft balancer, or the oil pan.

8.Place an adjustable (screw type) jack to the tab (1) located on the engine block.

9.Working through the wheelhouse opening, remove the engine mount to engine bolts (1).
10.Using the adjustable jack, raise the engine slightly until there is enough clearance to remove the engine mount.

    11.Remove the engine mount.

    Installation Procedure

1.Position the engine mount to the engine.

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

2.Working through the wheelhouse opening, install the engine mount to engine bolts (1).

Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

3.Using the adjustable jack, lower the engine until the engine mount is sitting flush on the frame.
4.Remove the adjustable jack from the engine block.

    5.Install the left wheelhouse liner.
    6.Lower the vehicle.
7.Install the engine mount to frame bolts (1).

Tighten the bolts to 65 N.m (48 lb ft) starting with the middle bolt then either side bolt.

    8.Install the generator bracket.
9.If the vehicle is equipped with 4WD, install the front drive axle. Refer to Differential Carrier Assembly Replacement.
    10.Lower the vehicle.
11.Install the air cleaner outlet duct.

Thanks for the reply and the information. I'm wondering if I can get away without having to take out the front axle though. I have to change the front bearing assembly in my BMW this weekend so while I have everything out I'll put the Escalade on the stands and see what kind of mess I'll be getting into.

You cannot. I work at Cadillac and had the same issue with the left front mount which is extremely common. Let the dealer change it. Request a loaner vehicle which they will supply for free

It's possible with a couple swivels and extensions. Once the old ones out it isn't a big deal, other than starting the bolts on the new mount.

    Anyone get this completed yet?

My 2007 EXT and my neighbors 2007 Suburban both have bad LH engine mounts.

Mine is AWD but im hoping i can get away without removing the axle/halfshaft.

If you have AWD this is a pain.

I did not remove the axle assembly so gaining access to the 4 bolts holding the mount to the block was a challenge.

The heat shield around the mount adds another factor of fun into the equation.

How do you tell if its broken? My 07 has been making an intermittent clunk from the front end recently.

Re: Busted motor mount--'07 Escalade ESV

The test to check if a motor mount is gone should be the following. While stopped, Put it in drive, press down on the break pretty hard. now with the break down hit the gas hard. This should torque the engine and if a mount is bad you should basically hear and feel a slight thump.

I have two esacalde's and In my one both motor mounts and 1 trans mount were replaced all at the same time for $1200 (1 mount was bad). I would suggest doing all 3 at once as you'll get a little break in price and the other mount will go bad pretty soon too.
In my other lade one was bad and my warranty covered it but they did not replace the other 2 mounts as the warranty would not cover it. But the price for 1 mount replacement was $500 which was charged to my 3rd party warranty company. Both mounts that went bad were the drivers side engine mount. The mechanic said that he replaces escalade mounts all the time as they always go, and are a week link in the drive train of escalades. Hope the info helps. My suggestion is to tell them that you got a quote for $1200 for all 3 or $500 for one. Either match that price or you will take it to them.

When my driver side went I felt the clunk on accel from a stop only, i did the powerbrake test to verify. I have an 08 esv awd. Did the job myself in the driveway. Had to secure the steering wheel and remove the shaft near the mount, also removed the exhaust manifold shield unsecured the mount and used a floor jack and wood to lift the engine... I guess this is the mount that gets all the torque because this is the only one that goes bad
