    Platinum LED Headlamps

    Hi,

So I know this has been discussed many a time, and I have read up all that I could find on the subject, but before I pull the trigger on parts this expensive, I just wanted to double check that I got my facts right.

On 2010, 11, 12, 13 Escalades, the LED headlamps are plug and play to the existing harness on all Escalade trims ... do I have this right?

All I need is parts 5, 6, and 7 on the attached drawing (the whole no 1 box left/right are part numbers: 25999509 and 25999510), swap the lamps, plug in the harness, and I'm good to go?

    Thanks.

    Re: Platinum LED Headlamps

I've looked and looked and they very rarely come up for sale, so yeah If I go through with it I guess I have to buy them new from my dealer's parts dept. or one of the GM part vendors on the web.

So no one knows for sure if the platinum lamps are plug and play in 11/12 premiums?

    It's not...

I have the whole setup ready to go, but no time to do it yet. After doing some research, I think that the forward lamp harness needs to be changed along with the headlamps. So I have the lamp harness and the headlamps. I figured when it warms up I'll do it.

    Hi Chris,

I was under the impression that the harness issue was for the 2009 and earlier models and that it's not needed for subsequent years.

    Did I get that wrong?

Not sure, but I studied the schematics and the LED headlamps have a DRL resistor used, where as the HID headlamps do not. The only way to get the resistor is to order the forward lamp harness, because the resistor is part of it.

    Re: Platinum LED Headlamps

Interesting ... I guess more research is needed before I order these.

I was sure I read somewhere that the later years don't have this issue. In fact on the 12/13s the LED lamps are an option on the Premiums, so I figured that they'd be pre-wired to accept them as a dealer installed option rather than something having to be harnessed at the factory.

Ugh, I wish someone had done this on a late year esky that way I'd know for sure.

    ----------

Damn it, I just read that the control module senses if one of the leds is out and sends a signal to the BCM which then displays on the DIC that the right/left lamp needs to be serviced. Does this mean that in order for these to function I have to get it programmed as well? Would not doing the programming just take away this feature but still allow the lights to work?

No, I strongly believe that the BCM would not have to be programmed. 2 more wires would have to be run to the BCM for the messages to be displayed. I have no intent on doing that.

    Re: Platinum LED Headlamps

I guess the way to find out what's what is get the part numbers for a 12 Platinum harness and a 12 Premium harness and see if they are the same .. if so the lamps will be interchangeable.

Am I reasoning this through right, or is it more complex than that?

    Re: Platinum LED Headlamps

Okay so I did some sherlocking ... these are the part numbers for the 2012 headlight harnesses:

    LED harness: 22908046
    HID harness: 22908045

It's apparently one big harness that goes to both sides and includes all headlamps and fog/TS. I do not know what the difference is tween the two harnesses ... it could be something significant that doesn't allow plug and playability, or it could just be the unneeded additional wires for the BCM. I'm not sure how to check other than by ordering an LED one and try to compare it to mine. They're not that expensive ($120) ... any ideas?

It'd sure be a lot easier if someone had done this before and be able to tell me/us what's what.

    Re: Platinum LED Headlamps

Don't waste your money its expensive and I would get leds for the daylight running and park lights and in the day time they look awesome and 6000k fogs for night. If you want to match I would do the 4500k to 6000k bulbs. They really don't look like 2500 to do. I heard that they don't light up as well as the xenons anyways and that matters to me. If it was 1300$ total to do I would. Get nice breaks performance because those will work for you better. put your money into something else plus the 2015 are coming out and when you sell your truck in 2016 you wont see your money back or put your money into that dual exhaust system that looks bad a_S

Okay so I guess I'm going to have to take a run at these without knowing for sure. I ordered the lamps assemblies and an LED harness in case I need it. I'll let you know how it pans out.
