Indeed..they work rather well.
This was one of the reasons we bought an Escalade over the Yukon Denali.
I did not like how the parking lights and fogs were yellow/orange color though that was easily fixable from VLEDS.
I will say the high beam of the Escalade lights up roof tops, and tree tops 30' above the ground !! Not quite sure that is necessary, but I like it. The low beams are perfect. I wouldn't go any higher, or we would be blinding people.
Hmmmmm that warehouse/garage sure does look familiar!!!!!! I remember when Bjorn did my Denali. I get a lot of looks when I'm coming down the street with HID on a Denali done the proper way.
If the HIDs sold you on the Escalade I couldn't imagine what would happen if you test drove a BMW at night....one thing that I miss dearly from my BMW is the Adaptive Xenon HIDs, it was honestly a degrade for me going to the Escalade in that regard
I didn't say the HID's sold me on the Escalade, I just said it was just one of the reasons we went for the Escalade over the Yukon Denali.
Trust me, there is no BMW that can do what I do with my Escalade ESV.
I have replaced all exterior lights with VLED LED's. I went with 5K all around. I started out with 6K and they were too blue for my taste. I felt the 5K's were much closer to the stock HID's.
parking lights are 194's
Fogs are 9145's
Here's a photo that I took of my fogs with 5K and 6K before I decided 6k wasn't right:
Actually, from what I understand, BMW use the exact same Hella EvoX (E55) projectors Escalades (sans the adaptive feature) do. But adaptive beams are more a concern for oncoming traffic than illumination for the driver. The advantage the BMWs have, which is the same advantage that all sedans/sports cars have over Escalades, is a consequence of the rake of the beam. Specifically, on an SUV such as the Escalade, because of the higher location of the projectors relative to the ground, the beam angle is more severe so as not to blind oncoming traffic. This naturally results in a shorter 'throw' because of said angle. Sedans/sports cars, with their projectors much lower to the ground, project the beam at an angle just below horizontal, resulting in greater distance.
Yup yup ... the adaptive feature is one that Escalades sorely need and really should be standard on vehicles of this price.
Again, it would make little difference for us driving them, but oncoming traffic would thank us. Escalades get more complaints about being blinded by their HIDs than any other vehicle.
I agree with both of those statements, I honestly couldn't believe the Escalade didn't have them when I got it... yeah I definitely get more "hey your brights are on" oncoming flashes with the Escalade
Hey guys wanted to let you know I switched to 6k headlights and 6k 55watt HID fogs. I didn't use a relay wire kit for the fogs and one of my fogs ballast blew. http://www.retro-solutions.com replaced the whole kit for free and I installed the relay kit yesterday, good as new. Looks sharp, I'll take a pic tonight of both of them on. I only wish the fog light switch could be enabled to stay on, like most cars. Having to push the fog light button every time is a little annoying, all my driving is around town not highway, so having the fogs on is my preference.
