Because that kind of mileage is unheard of.

10.3, 2007 ESV with 22" wheel. Most are stop & go, and lot of idle time waiting for the wife

Our GL450 avg 13 with similar driving condition. It uses premium gas, so pretty much a wash.

WHY CANT THEY MAKE THE ESCALADE DIESEL ? ALmost all SUV in Europe are diesel, and they run fine & good gas mileage

There was a Diesel planned for 2010, but they cancelled it to fund things like the Volt. It would have achieved 30MPG EPA highway in an AWD ESV.

I don't know why people constantly bash the Volt (yes I own a 2013 Volt along with an 07 escalade). I'd bet developing the volt has nothing to do with it.

Given the fact that diesels exists all through GMs full size truck line- I'm pretty sure the cost of fitting an escalade would be next to nothing. On fact there are after market companies that do this right now. I'd bet it's a marketing issue more than anything else.

Truth is - the American market still I doesn't like diesel. When companies like Audi and MB have trouble selling diesels in their SUV (Q7 and GL)- which easily score 30 mpg- then GM would be hard pressed.

Put me on the list for diesel escalade too- having had GM diesel trucks- I can't imagine why they don't do it. Power, economy, low maintenance- it's a no brainer.

BTW- don't be surprised to see the Volt technology in many more GM products soon- perhaps implemented differently than the extended range drivetrain. The upcoming Cadillac ELR is basically a Volt. It's killer tech, and when/if it grabs hold - GM will have a winner on its hands.

Re: What is your AVERAGE ECONOMY in your cluster?

I have a 2007 EXT AWD with 125K miles on it running 87 octane gas.

Just got back from the beach and on the trip down there (about a 3 hour drive - 150 or so miles) I got 18.4 mpg doing mainly around 60-65 mph. I got about the same coming back home.

Usually during a normal week I get around 17 mpg or so I guess. I've never gotten like 14 mpg though...that's ridiculous. Even if I just drive in the city only on short trips all the time I get 16mpg.

Nope, has to do with using non ethanol gas. Ethanol kills mileage. I just drove 288 miles mostly highway this past weekend and got 20.2mpg doing 77mph. Stock w/22".

I expect I'll get better once I get a tuner, headers, and bypass cats. No emission testing where I'm moving. I am not a light foot and I don't use cruise on hilly drives, my mpg drops 1.5-2mpg using cruise. Use cruise only on flat straights.

Using remote start kills mileage too, but worth it

1 reading, I just got mine so I did 1/2 on highway, and later did about 1/2 for city averages

LMAO!! It would be very interesting if the computer can differentiate between city and highway miles.
