Low oil pressure only after driving down the interstate (low idle)

My 2007 escalade with 60,000 miles has low oil pressure (8 psi) after driving down the interstate (low idle). Knocks and sounds like a clunker only after driving down the interstate. It sounds fine driving through the city. My mechanic replaced the oil pump and sensor a couple weeks ago. It does not show the warning light any more stating "low oil pressure, stop engine." anyone have any ideas? Needs new lifters?

The dealer wanted to rip into the engine with no clue what was wrong. They said the noise "could be anything." The camshaft, lifters, etc... They said this is the beginning of "big money," they would have to tear into the engine. They drove down the interstate with it and plugged in their service tool and said the oil pressure went down to 8 psi when just cruising down the interstate. They initially thought it was the oil pump, but then I told them it had been replaced 2 weeks prior. I was not impressed with their lack of knowledge and had them pack it back up and I took it home. I have a mechanic for a business of mine...he is not a Cadillac specialist. He worked on Volkswagons previously. I will read your thread....

I'm sorry to hear about these issues you are having! Have you taken your vehicle to a GM dealership? Please let us know if we can be of any assistance.

    Thank you!

Ashley if you look at my thread you will see what has gone on. My Dealer did the same thing said it was the oil pump, did the oil pump and no more than 15-20 mins after I pick it up the motor blew and the dealer refuses to take any responsibility!! I have a case number with GM and should hear something tomorrow from the district case manager as the dealer won't do anything with my truck.

Re: Low oil pressure only after driving down the interstate (low idle)

Did anyone ever get any resolution to this? My truck is doing the exact same thing.

Had the P1001 Intake Cam Position Sensor advanced timing bank 1 for a while now. One of the possible causes for this listed is oil pressure.

Driving city is fine. Driving highway drives normal, then come to a stop at a light and LOW OIL PRESSURE and chime.

If I let it sit at idle and hold the pressure at 1,000 rpm to keep the alert from showing for about 20 minutes, I can again let it go back to 600 RPM idle and no oil pressure warnings.

Followed the TSB's, replaced negative oil pressure bypass valve in the oil pan and the oil pickup screen, did not fix the issue.
Replaced the oil pressure sensor in the intake and its screen/filter, did not fix the issue.

Doesn't seem to do this on new oil for about the first 1,000 miles, then it comes back. Changed JUST the oil filter today to see if it was gumming up the filter, didn't fix a thing, problem immediately came back, I'm at 2,500 miles since my last oil change.

Engine has increasingly louder lifter rattle at approximately 2,200 RPM (I know what rod knock sounds like, this ain't it).

I'm wondering if that cam position actuator solenoid is completely clogged, restricting how much oil can get back to the oil pan at highway speeds, then the pump starts cavitating.

    Anyone?

Man my cousin is having the same problem. I was told by the dealership that its a possible cam bearing issue thats the cause of it. i replaced his cam actuator, oil pump, timing chain assy, cam solenoid bolt, and cam magnet. the dealer replaced the oil pressure sensor and it still has low oil pressure.
