Check your brake light switch. I had this happen with my previous 07 at the very beginning of a 2000 mile trip. After returning (with a very sore right leg) the dealer diagnosed that the switch was telling the cruise control that the brake lights were on and preventing the CC from engaging.

Celilpolat, please let us know when you have a chance to check your brake light switch, as CadX6 suggested. Your cruise control is set up to not work if your parking brake is set, or also if the master cylinder brake fluid level is low.

    Looking forward to your updates,

Yep, easy fix. Switch is about $35 at the dealer, I think. Attaches to the brake pedal arm

Looks exactly like the one I have. I ended up getting mine from the local Chevy dealer. The caddy dealer was out.

Any updates on the right part? Also, how would I test the switch to know if it's working or not?

    Re: cruise control problem

Recently noticed this on my 07 Escalade. An intermittent issue. Occasionally I turn the cruise module on, but can not engage it. A brake light sensor sounds very logical. Will look into it further.

Does anyone know which switch? There are 2 on the pedal on these modes. The brake light switch, and the brake pedal position sensor. thx.

    Re: cruise control problem

It is most likely the Brake Light switch (square-ish one) -- not the position sensor (round--ish one). However, looking at amazon reviews on both parts, reviewers on each part claim it fixed their CC problem. I think its much more likely the brake light switch...

    Re: cruise control problem

It's still hard to believe that replacing that $!#*% tail light switch cured the intermittent cruise control problem! But apparently it did. (2007 Escalade)
First I took the original switch apart and burnished the contacts. Then I tested it with a meter and both sides of the switch worked fine. After reinstalling it, the CC was no-go. WTF??
I ordered the AC/Delco part #25981009 from Amazon for $15 with overnight delivery. After installation, CC works great now.
That retainer clip is a b#t#h! I finally bent parts of it slightly to give it a little less resistance. Then it snapped right on and is still 100% secure.
Thanks to everyone for their input to this thread! Probably saved myself at least $500.

    Re: cruise control problem

I had this issue. I removed the brake light switch and adjusted (aka re-bent) the contacts. In my case, with the switch installed -- it "engaged" in a neutral position. in other words, once installed on the brake pedal, the angle of the switch pushed the little button and made the contacts touch, making cruise think the brake was being pushed. It doesn't take much moved at ALL to engage the contacts. If i pushed the switch up while it was attached, it would release the contacts. but in it's natural/neutral position it thought brake was pushed in.

So even though OFF the brake pedal the switch works fine -- it can still be the switch. I diagnosed by multi-meter with the brake switch on and off the car. then adjusted the contacts inside for the normally open pair, and tried again. I had to adjust the contacts twice, but it worked the send time. zero dollars and about 30-40 minutes of time (mostly figuring out how it worked and trying to test with the multi meter in the cramped space). just make sure both sets of contacts work as they should (one pair normally open, the other normally closed if i recall) once reassembled.

and yes, it looks like the photo that rustico posted above.
