    12v Ignition-switched power source

I am right in the middle of hard wiring my radar detector in my 09 escalade and I need some help with an ignition switched power source. I've tested all of the fuses in the fuse box but have came up short of finding one that actually goes off. I've searched and found some talk of another black fuse box next to the brake pedal but there are no pictures of what exactly they tapped into in that box. Anyone who has done this, I'd GREATLY appreciate some help!!!

Behind the black plastic snap off cover on the inside firewall (just to the left of the brake pedal) are three small "spade" contacts, at least one of which is switched 12 volt (I think the other is constant 12v & not sure what the 3rd is - maybe ground). I use that for the switched power for my iPhone cradle.
If you can't find them, let me know & I'll grab a digital pic & post it.

Thanks for the reply! I think I found the box that you're talking about but I don't know exactly what "contacts" you're talking about. Maybe I'm looking at an alternative black box. There are 6 connectors inside that box and that's all I see. Maybe the 09 is different than previous models? A pic would be awesome!

Here ... best thing you'll ever invest in.

And .. no cuts, no splices, nothing hanging, nothing fished behind the pillar or headliner.

You still have to have a power source.

    AND I don't have a valentine, either.

Sorry 'bout that. When I wrote that last night there was a nasty thunderstorm going over & I was too lazy to trek down & out to the garage to verify what I was saying. So much for my memory (& I've only had this Escalade for 4 months )
See if these help - Mine is also an 09, but my defective memory seems to recall that my 07 was the same.
You can see where my black wire (didn't have any red handy) goes into the block. That group of connectors is what you want to work with. Easy to find which is which with a test light. I just used a small female spade connector with a piece of heat shrink around it to keep it from touching any of the other connectors - it's kind of tight in there.
If your parts dept. could come up with a part number for the connector that fits that section of the block - you could probably make up a really slick, clean plug in for your accessories.

The power source is the mirror wiring harness/connector. You have switched power 6 inches from the radar.

And .. they make it for several brands....

Well, I called myself looking for one, I only found them for the valentine and a few select (higher end) others. I couldn't find one for my cheap-O Cobra. I hope I didn't overlook it! Regardless, I've cut the wire and ran it to the fusebox area. I'm just having trouble finding a switched power source.

Here is what my fuse box looks like:

I have an extra connector in that location with one single wire in it. Idk if my box is wired differently or what the deal is. I don't have a test light either, I may have to invest in one.

    Re: 12v Ignition-switched power source

Looks like you do already have a plug in that spot that I don't. Makes it really easy. Check an auto parts place or your dealer for the correct crimp on connector & just insert it in the correct hole in the connector shell (it just snaps in).
You must have an option that I don't - RSE or power running boards?
If I'm not mistaken, I'm connected to pin #8 (bottom row - far left)- your connector looks like it's numbered so it should be easy.
Needle point test lights are cheap at Auto Zone (or any other parts house). Also good for probing individual wires if you're planning on making a connection for something in mid wire with an in-line, crimp on tap.

    Re: 12v Ignition-switched power source

Thanks for all the help... I will stop by anautopartsstoreofsomesort tomorrow when I leave the office and grab a test light. I don't have the auto running boards (I desperately wish I did!!!) Idk what that stray wire may be, it sure was throwing me off! I will try the same pin and see if it's the one I need and I will update here for future reference.

You do realize you can buy one of the stealthcords connectors and cut off the end, splice your radar's oem connector into it and run it from the mirror ... right?

You'd be far less frustrated and much less fishing involved.

Update: The same pin (far left, bottom row) is an ignition shiwched power source. Thank you for all your help!
