P0449 Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Valve/Solenoid Circuit Malfunction
This code can be caused by a loose or faulty gas cap.Look for cracks around the seal on cap.

It is the evap vent solenoid. Search the part on a parts website. It is located under the spare tire and it is pretty simple to switch out. Just pull off the 2 tubes and replace the old part with a new one. There is no liquid running through the part. I had the same problem and I was able to fix it in about an hour. Biggest pain is taking the spare tire off.

I agree, GM trucks are known for this code and the replacement of the solenoid cures the problem in 99.9% of the. I had two Tahoes that had this code and the first time I replaced the fuel cap with no luck, then I checked all the hoses and connections with no luck. Next up I replaced the solenoid and cured the problem immediately. Second Tahoe I first replaced the solenoid and bingo, the problem was gone.

Had this last October and for me it was the gas cap. Put a new one on cleared the code and it never came back.

I've got the same problem, will be swapping the solenoid out tonight after work. Naturally, last weekend when I went to lower the spare tire to get under there and see what the part looked like to verify i ordered the right one, the hoist seized about half way down. Not far enough to get the tire off the cable but too far to leave it so had to remove it and order its replacement as well. Thank god for amazon prime, the hoist was only $40 instead of the $150 everyone else wanted for it and the solenoid was only $20 something.

It'll be nice to able to use my remote start again.

There has been a redesign of this part and it is now $70 from AutoZone. And $95 at the dealer. Well in RI that is. And with the redesign, they changed the plug. Intern, you have to buy a converter plug as well. It cost $35 from the dealer, and $45 from AZ. RockAuto appears to not have the redsigned part yet. They still sell this part for $30.

Anyone have a part number for the evap vent solenoid? Just to be sure...is it this, the "purge valve solenoid"? :

Or is it this, the "canister vent valve solenoid"?

The purge solenoid is on the engine. The Canister Vent valve is in the rear, near the gas tank. The vent valve is the cause for this error code.

    I gotcha...

    The valve itself...

The two assemblies beside each other.

The different vent on the end.

    The converter plug

It's still relatively easy to change. You just have to route the vent tube, which is a little long the the OEM.
