Question about camera looking thing behind rear view mirror

hey guys don't want to sound stupid, but there is a small box behind the rearview mirror on my 2007 escalade esv and i was wondering what that was. I thought it was some sort of camera but i don't know. Does it have something to do with the rain sensing wipers?

By the way how do those work do i have to turn the wipers on for them to work or what? Sorry i haven't had my escalade that long and couldn't figure this stuff out because i havne't gotten to drive it much because my wife is always in it!

^^ It turns High Beam on when it's dark enough if you set it on Auto on the Rear View Mirror. There a Button "AUTO" on the RVM

You have to put the Wipers to a certain sensing level also for the wiper to operate in Auto, they're not VERY effective when it's just drizzling ....
