I have a 2007 Escalade that has a continuing issue when we get snow or freezing rain that ice builds up on the wipers causing them not to clear the windshield properly. Dealer replaced the blades (after i repeatedly said that wouldn't work). My wifes STS has the same blades (the one piece flexible) and has the same problem but to a lesser degree.
Design flaw?
should i just switch the blades out for conventional "hinged" type? |

Every vehicle I've ever owned has ice cake on the wipers when there's icy precipitation. I have often thought of trying to create some kind of low current warmer to charge the wiper arms and keep ice from accumulating, but it doesn't seem like an easy task. I have found there's no amount of windshield de-icer will keep that ice from growing either.

My father has same truck and changed to "conventional" hinged wipers and it got to the point of what you would expect.
I get ice within first couple miles. (i can extend time by running defroster full out with temp set at 85, that get's me a few more miles)
neighbors tahoe with old style wipers have no issue.... |

With the Lade, I use the heated windshield fluid to correct/melt ...works most of the time. I also "bang" the wipers in addition to clearing off snow/ice before driving. |

I live in snowland USA, I have had 6 Suburban's, 3 Esclade's and 26 Grand Cherokee's, I have used every wiper blade made at some point, and if you get enough snow or ice you will get ice build up, it a matter of getting the ice/snow away from your windshield, the newer cars/trucks are more areo in their windshield design and the snow and ice seems to want to stay there longer.
