There is no standard of where to cut. It depends on your wheels & tires, because they have different heights & widths & offsets. The main wildcard here is the offset.

I had 2 sets of 24's. Both rims are 24x10. But different tire sizes. One set was 33" tall. The other 31" tall. The 31" tall set had a lower offset and stuck out 1/2" more than the other set (which sat more flush with the vehicle).

One would think the set with the wider stance would rub more. But its lower profile tire meant no rubbing but rougher ride quality.

For the taller tire (softer ride) that I preferred to run, I had to do some cutting to reduce the aweful rub noise when the wheels were turned, like backing out of a parking space. I could see the area on black inside fender lining (dont know the official name for it) where it was rubbing.

So I rubbed some baby powder on the lining. I drove around the block, trying to make the tires rub. Got home and I could clearly see where i needed to make adjustments.

I ended up cutting about 1 inch straight across the bottom of the lining infront of the front wheels. About mid way up the front of the lining, about center there was a rub. So I used my heat gun to warm this area up and used a shop towel to mold it back. Giving the tire more room.

It took a couple more test drives and adjustments to completely eliminate the rub.

I've seen lots of "how do I eliminate rub" posts when I researched the problem, without finding any answers. Through my own experience, I thought I'd take some time and write a post that covered all the bases without getting too complicated.

BD997 - to cut the lining, all you need is a box cutter (straight razor) and a basic heatgun. I grabbed the cheapest one at the hardware store for like $20 bucks.

I've learned a lot from online forums, and I'm glad if even one person benefits from my post.
