Ok, so I took my escalade in this morning to get a ground force spindle kit put on. I didn't have time to install it, nor the space, so I took it to a car customizing shop here in town. They told me it would be about $350 to install and maybe some change to get it not to rub. Sounded good to me so I said lets do it.....
Well I get a call a little bit ago saying that they thought it was the Ground Force coil drop and not the spindle kit. The spindle kit takes more time to install and will be a tad lower. With it being lower they are going to need it longer than today (said 2-3 days) to install it, and then it's going to be anywhere from $1k-1500 for the install and the fixing of the fenders (due to 26's)....
Anyways, I'm just a little frustrated. I asked if they could just install the kit and leave the front fenders off, and I will take care of them myself, but they said they won't because of their reputation, and that they have to do 100% of the work.
Well the kit is only a 2 front & 2.5 Rear. Same as McGaughy's I believe. Is $1000-1500 a realistic amount to install a kit and adjust the fenders not to rub? What did you guys pay if you had it installed and/or how hard was it to fit 26's with that type of drop?
My truck is a 2002 and 2004 (I have both), with front spindle drop and shaving inner fenders for no rubbing, and the local shop only charged me $240 for EACH truck! Only took 5-6 hours for them to do EACH truck! I did the 2" front/ 3" rear springs...
If they are quoting you 2-3 days, sounds like Beginners to me! Thats why they are charging a grip!
I know your truck is Newer AND with 26s, but it sure as hell shouldnt cost that much to install a lowering kit and shave a little plastic inner fender!!
They might see you roll in with brand new truck and wheels and now trying to make money off your ass. So if I was YOU, i'd tell them to put the stock shit back on and let me go elsewhere!
Thanks for your reply. Thats what I thought too! I was quoted a price over the phone, then somehow it changes AFTER I drop it off and leave... Well I told them I want it back tonight and went and got it. They might not of made much money off me for the install, but now they won't make any money off me in the future.
I thought $350 was do-able, but when they said the CUSTOM shaving of the fenders will cost $1k, thats ridiculous. I thought the fact they couldn't give me an exact price and they really didn't know exactly what would have to be done was odd
You know what? Spindles are EASIER to change than springs! Anyways, tell whomever does the job to just install the kit and then do the triming and alignment yourself! Needless to say, those clowns were trying to pull a fast one on you...

I told them to leave the front fenders off, do the install they agreed to do, and I'll put them back on myself. They gave me, "Well, umm, if we do any work on cars we want to do the complete job to make sure there is no problems and for our reputation."
Yes, I think those clowns thought I was stupid and would say, yeah no problem do as much work as you want and bill me in the end
I called around for a McGaughy or Eibach 2/2.5 drop and I was quoted $500 for the kit and $500 for install & alignment. Plus tax... around $1200 total. This is the average price I got from shops in Arizona and SoCal.
In the end, I decided to do it myself and it is a simple install.
By the way, with the same tire/wheel combos, my 07 Escalade rubs where my 07 Tahoe didn't. I think the Escalade's front fenders are an inch smaller than the Tahoes. I did some cutting of my own and I get less rub, but there is still rub. I've decided to run a small tire. Which is now making me think of dropping even lower.
