If you compare Tahoe models right now, with a Tahoe 3LT 4wd with identical equipment to a Hybrid 4wd with nothing extra (just as an example), the stickers are as follows:
3LT 4wd: $45,055 (Invoice around $41,000)
Hybrid 4wd: $53,295 (Invoice around $49,700)
SO, just based on the current models, there's a Hybrid difference of $8,240 give or take. Expect VERY similar for the Escalade, again with matched equipment (as far as wheels, sunroof, DVD, etc.).
Thank you all very much. Does anyone know exactly how much better the mpg/gas mileage is on the hybrid AWD than the non-hybrid AWD. if it's a decent bit more than 10k more would be worth it.
So, let's say gas is $5 a gallon next year. You drive 12,000 miles at 12 mpg. That's 1000 gal or $5000. If the hybrid moved you up to 15 mpg, you'd use 800 gal or $4000 for a savings of $1000 per year. It would take 10 years to make up the price of the hybrid.

Agree. Therein lies the problem. Because, not only that, but imagine increased repair costs potentially after warrantee expires and YOU HAVE GIVEN UP SIGNIFICANT HORSEPOWER ALL THOSE YEARS!!!!!!!!!!
The cost would have to be able to be re-couped in 4 years or less ($2500 savings per year) in order to even get it on my radar for a purchase. Even then, I will likely pay more for gas for increased performance. In fact, the Lade performance is one of the major reasons I chose it over a loaded Tahoe LTZ in the first place (I think the Tahoes look better).
There was an article in USA Today (I think) that covered this scenario on a lot of the Hybrid cars. The time it takes to recoup the extra cost of the Hybrid typically does not make sense.
Generally, I think the more expensive the car, the longer (exponentially) that it would take. For a Civic it was like 3-4 years. For the Lexus LS it was like 80+ years.
I guess this study ignores the impact on the environment, but could you not just have the extra horsepower and make a donation to a 'green' organization?
Never really did the math calculations. Figured it'd even out a little faster. Eh I suppose if I could get the dealer to knock the price down a little bit it'd be worth it, if not, then no.
