Anyone de-badge their ride

Could not find any posts on de-badging. Would like to do that, but wanted some input/advice first.

Re: Anyone de-badge their ride

I was going to do it because I liked the look, but I did it on my 03' and the dealer wanted it back on when I traded it in

Re: Anyone de-badge their ride

I debadg-ed/de-body side moulding-ed my Tahoe. It looked much cleaner. See below. I have not done the Lade because I like the chrome look/accents.

If you decide to do it, get some cheap plastic putty knifes, some fishing line, a 3m eraser wheel, and 3m adhesive remover. The right materials make the job easy.

Re: Anyone de-badge their ride

I've fully debadged my black ext. I don't have any pictures but all the chrome lettering on doors and tailgate have been removed. It really tones down the look in a good way. I simply used a heat gun and some fishing line to remove the letters. After that, some 3m adheasive remover takes any remaining glue off easily. I wanted to remove the crest and wreath but there are two prongs that go into the tailgate and I didn't want to have the holes showing afterward. Now if I could just figure out how to fill them in. I've also added some Foose wheels in black to give it a more stealthy look.

Re: Anyone de-badge their ride

If you decide to take the molding off too, I would definitely get the eraser wheel. For just the lettering, you don't need it.

Re: Anyone de-badge their ride

Scott T, I really want to get rid of the crest and wreath! I would think a stainless disk of the same size would work, just attach with double stick tape. There has to be a good answer somewhere.

hcvone, I know it would be a PITA to put all those individual letters back on. I wonder it the dealer paint shop would have a template to make the spacing and alignment easier.

Re: Anyone de-badge their ride

It really was not that bad to put them back on, I used a laser level, mine looked better than from the factory.

So you did de-badge one of your '07's? If so, can I get a photo?

It looks to me that the crest and wreath are attached individually to the black background circle (plastic) with tape, same as the letters are. Did you try to remove just the wreath and/or crest?

Re: Anyone de-badge their ride

Simplemind,

I started by trying to remove just the wreath. Using some fishing line, like I did to remove the letters, I quickly realized there were pins that hold the wreath in place on the tailgate along with the tape. After that I stopped. I did remove the crest on the front grill and they use the pins there too but the holes are pretty small and not a big deal. I was just concerned about leaving holes on the tailgate which would be much more noticable.

I'll try to get some pictures of my debadged truck for you but I'll probably need some help getting them posted on here. I'm not very computer literate. I think it looks much better without the lettering but that's just me. There's still plenty of chrome with the door handles, window trim and roof rack in my opinion.

Scott
